Some screenshots of Col. John Landers' 78th FG mount, "Big Beautiful Doll", on a short trip from Duxford down to London today.

Sort of Naki, it has been on my mind today for sure, though BBD is simply one of the examples I like to fly the most, and I typically fly the most from Duxford as well.

It was terrible to hear of the news today about the loss of the aircraft, but very, very good news that Rob Davies got out okay, just in time, and that the pilot of the Skyraider was able to land the aircraft, with such a large portion of the wing missing. Definitely a sad ending to what was an amazing air show on both days this weekend!

This was the Mustang involved (so that there is no confusion - there is also another P-51D marked up as Big Beautiful Doll here in the U.S.). It was owned by Rob Davies, in the UK, up until the beginning of this year, until it was sold to a German-based group this past spring. Recently it had completed an overhaul/repaint, that saw it revived in a bare-metal finish.

With the way in which Mustang rebuilds go these days, as some say, it may not be all too surprising to see the identity of this Mustang flying again in the future, though in a mostly new-build form.

Was there a version of BBD John that had a red canopy and black instead of green on the fwd fuselage top? If so any chance you could do a verison of that for us? I seem to remember seeing this on the cover of a modellers profile book... but that doesnt mean its factual of course... It did look good though.

I also wondered John if you use any ground texture enhancements in FSX and if so what they are...
