The entire process, from when the aircraft began to be taken apart within the IWM museum complex, moved to the local restoration hangar, and the most recent work, can all be followed in this thread:

Yeah, it is a bit understandable that when the first rumors were made online that the IWM was going to be moving the B-17 out of the facility, most people's response was that it wouldn't happen - figuring that the entire glass wall would have to be removed in sections (a very expensive and time-consuming undertaking). When it was stated further-on that it would be removed in sections through just one of the double-door openings, the optimism still didn't seem to grow much. : )

As stated, it will be finished in a new paint scheme when all of the work is finished. I'm personally thinking it would be great if it could be finished in a polished aluminum scheme.
