View Full Version : Where did my runway go and why are the shadows so light?

Installed Acceleration into a clean install of FSX on Windows XP and all appeared to go okay. During my first post install test flight I noticed a small increase in frame rates making everything just a little smoother.

Also noticed that the shadows are less jaggy looking, but they are not as dark as before. I see the same thing in some of the screenies others have posted here. Even in cloudless scenes the aircraft shadows on the ground and on itself are not very noticeable. This may a a graphics driver issue, but I am using the latest Nvidia drivers.

Installed MegaSceneryX Hawaii and taking off from Honolulu Intl. there are big gaps in the runway texture wherever my aircraft is. Once I have gained a little altitude it looks okay.

It seems the mesh may be changed just enough that it messes up the runway. It is much worse at Dillingham, where the wheels of the aircraft are well below the runway. I hope MegaScenery can/will fix the Oahu issues with FSX-Acceleration.

Uninstalling Acceleration makes it all normal again, but I like the improved frame rates and the additional aircraft Acceleration adds so I will keep it on my system. I can learn to live with the lighter shadows and will just avoid using the Oahu scenery add-on until MegaScenery fixes it.

Shadows DO have to do with the weather/clouds, Barry.

This is with overcast :

And this with fair weather :

I'm using ForceWare 162.18 (not the latest but as long as i'm happy with 'em why change, éh :) ) on Geforce 8800 GTX, running XP.

Runways on FSX/Acceleration Megascenery Oahu look Ok here.

Hope you can get your shadows back.

Nice screenies, Ted !

But, hey, those are not with Acceleration, are they ?

The still non textured stuff turning up black ( the ejectionseat armor plate f.i. ) turns up grey again in my FSX/Acceleration ( see pics above ). Good ! ( but i'll texture them anyway, mind you :) )

Cheers,

Javis,
ALWAYS texture everything! Untexed parts blow the realism, they look like an unpainted toy (to me that is)

Thanks Jan,

After playing with Acceleration some more I noticed the intensity of the shadows is related to the weather and clouds. It is strange how at times even though there are very few clouds the shadows are hardly visible.

I just checked and I am on ForceWare 162.15.:redf:

I will try a more recent driver and see if that changes anything.

That Sabre is looking good Jan. :applause:
