My version of the Convair R3Y-1 Tradewind is now up at flightsim and simviation. This project has been a year in the making and has more than it's share of problems. It is finally completed to my satisfaction. Enjoy! It is now time for a :icon29:

Best, Paul

Once you get some rest and refreshment - it would be great to hear about some of the challenges you faced and how they were overcome. No need for technical details, just interested in hearing about how you solved the problems. I would also be interested in learning what kept you going with the project even though things were having problems.

I think people would enjoy knowing about the human side of development.

Thanks

Nicely done Paul!

:applause:

What a wild looking aircraft design. Looks like a ship with wings and a giant rudder. Love that ground dolly vehicle for it. Must be the size of a semi truck.

My dad and grandfather both worked on the design of this plane, working in the section that designed the shape of the boat hulls for the floats and body.

Thanks for bringing this one to light, Paul.

The end of the first day's shakedown flight from Chevalier seaplane ramp near Pensacola, to LA64 Amelia, Louisiana.
Thank you Paul for another wonderful airplane that is a delight to fly.

The LA64 scenery is very nice and is part of the Southern Crossing package in Mocat's Lands End Seaplanes series. I believe that they used to be here at SOH but I could not find them.

Nice screen! What a great boat! I am particularly impressed with the way Mr.Clawson has set up the FDE's so that the 'boat climbs up on the step and settles back off the step, as well as draws substantaily more water at max AUW. The only other boat that behaves on the water is this realistic fashion is his Saro Princess. Would have been really something to see this boat in the flesh! Pity the whole fleet was chopped up for beer tins- nothing left except a data plate from one of the -2's. I had read a while back that the navy located the wreck site of the XP5Y off the California coast, but she's in 1800 ft of water, and the aluminum alloy she was made out of - 7075T ?- was very prone to salt water corrosion, I suppose there is not much left of her. Ah well. She flies on forever in the virtual world. :salute:
