View Full Version : Scanning decal sheets

Anyone have any advice on how to scan aircraft model decal sheets for use in repainting? Most of it comes out alright if I simply turn the detail way up, but some nose art ends up hopelessly blurred. Well, I should be more specific - the outline and shape are fine, but the inner parts (there's just no way to discuss this without sounding dirty :costumes: ) are a mess. I can post some of my scans so you can see what I'm talking about if need be.

Well, my scanner and software appear to have no such setting. Anybody have any other ideas?

Do you mean post the scan I have, or post what decals I'm trying to scan and maybe we can find a scan online?
In the latter case, been there, done that. I'm trying to paint Charles Weaver's P-51D (http://www.cebudanderson.com/357profileweaver.htm). The artwork on that page is the best available, but it's still less than satisactory.
Even if I could find a good image of this particular artwork online, that isn't a long-term solution. Clearly there's a way to scan decals without this happening, and that's what I'm looking for so I won't be dependant on the (few and far between) scans/images available online.

IMO, it simply won't do. The color shading is quite poor. The Old Crow site is a good resource for getting the basic conformation of 357th FG Mustangs, but their art is lackluster. And as I said, even if that image was workable, it's not a real solution to the problem. It's not as though I'll never want to scan a decal sheet again if I use that image.

Can't think of anything off the top of my head.
