Strange way to carry a bomb... the gunner also has a tense expression on his face...

A case in point for maintaining situational awareness. :icon_lol:

Never fly threw the bombing formation while it is dropping its ordnance.

Is there enough elevator trim to carry ordnance that way?

One book (Ospey's "Bf-109 Aces of the Reich Defense" or something like that) told about a Bf-109 pilot who downed a B-17 with a freefall bomb (!) in an experiment to determine the effectiveness of bombing bomber formations (just imagine that) from above instead of going face to face with the gunners.

So it doesn't just happen to SBDs...

Pilot sure has it trimmed up nice, considering the extra weight aft. The gunner should crawl back into the tail and unscrew the fuse, it'll look good on his next eval. :icon_lol:

The Weapons and Armament folks should lose thier jobs on that one, for sure ! It should have detonated on impact, that way there would be no aircraft write-up in the forms to deal with. Probably will get signed off as a "CND" or "Pilot error" that always use to piss them pilots off.

:-)

This effect can be reproduced, by the way. Before taking off, while standing on the ground idling, I thought I'd get rid off the bomb by swinging out the bomb release arm and dropping the bomb. That obviously messed up the pre-programmed bomb release effect and the bomb got stuck to the airframe. Oh well.

Mark

I'd be very careful how I land that thing if I were you.

Check out the book by German WWII pilot Heinz Knoke named I Flew for the Fuhrer...in this book this bomber bombing is described in much more detail plus it's just a very good read.

As did the Osprey book.

Oh well, someday when I've got the time. Still have a ton of (mostly airline(r) related) (e-)books I have to read.

ROger what are your PC specs how are you running autogen that dense?

My System is just mid range, I guess. Self build.

Intel q6600 @ 3 GHz
ASUS MB
Nvidia GTX 460 (a little edgy with hires textures because it only has 1 Gig)
4 Gig RAM
Win 7 64
REX
FSX runs at native 1080p for the LED 24" tft monitor.

I applied Jesus Bojotes fsx.cfg analysis and fix, Bojotes alternative shaders, and Nvidia inspector with the usual FSX parameters. The hires trees and ground textures are from http://sites.google.com/site/aimecreations/ALCreations (theres a frame penalty, but not much). I have the autogen maxed. The system is locked at 30 fps und usually stays there, at least in the environments I fly.

Cheers,
Mark

PS: regarding the shader mod, be careful - read http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283701-bojotes-shader-30-mod-for-fsx/ and get the latest version
