Our friends at www.flugwerk.de/ (http://www.flugwerk.de/) ,who are rightly famous for having built several Fw 190 A8 full size flying replicas have, in the last year built a FW190 D9N (for "New") . They used a modified Allison engine . Thats Gunther Rall who must be in his late 80's,having just autographed it . Other than the FW 190 D13 in Seattle at the Museum of Flight, this FW 190 D9N is the only other flyable D model . Congrats to Flugwerk !

Looks superb Valkbro!

Shame it isn't a genuine 1940's engine - just for the sound it would make.

I'll have to go and chop down the iron railings at the Town Hall - just in case we need to start building Spitfires again. :costumes:

NO, unless they have manufactured the plane for export :d

the black cross is all right, but the swastika is considered a NAZI party symbol, which is not permitted to show in public......
(still a good regulation for Germany, I think)

most Germans are still fed up with the NAZIS and don't want to see their insignia, showing them in public may quickly cause massive protests, thats why the law...

where did they get the swastika symbol anyways?

It was used as a kind of logo in some racist/fascist/esotheric trivial political literature, which was very popular in the late 19th century and after WW1 in Austria and Germany (and France, I think). Many NAZI leaders originated from that scene and used it from the early 1920ies on political flyers and their party flag etc. So in Germany it is firmly linked with the NAZI party.

Hi oki If you talk with the flugwerk folks you might suggest that a video of their FW190 A8 and D9N with props turning and in-flight might earn them back some Euros and Dollars . Thanks Roger

The confusion of many people outside Germany is that they think the Swastika is somehow a historic military symbol and should therefor be on this plane f.ex. In reality the swastika never was a military symbol in Germany.
The swastika was forced upon the military by the nazi party, and it was the only time in German history that a party symbol was on military uniforms and vehicles.
The swastika (even if it's a common symbol in Finland and other cultures) is interdictied today in Germany, same as it's interdicted to deny the Holocaust in public or to shout "Kill the Jews". That's all, and it's not a big loss.

PS: and btw, the Swastika on finnish WW2 planes is a military symbol, and it never anything todo with the german swastika.

the Flugwerk people have sent me an email saying the D9 was delivered to the customer (for fitting the instruments and preparng the registration, I guess ) and they are no longer involved, but its first flight is scheduled for some time soon before the end of the year.
