Hm, I guess you can max things out a bit more.
If you can keep a framerate of 20, you're fine.

Afterall, it's just a flightsim and not a first person shooter.

The best way to get better frame rates is to cut down the AI traffic and airport vehicle traffic. If you like a lot of AI, then you need to invest in MyTrafficX by BUrkhard Renk. His AI aircraft are much better than the default FSX aircraft. FSX defaults to 15% with Mytraffic I have it set to 40% and that is enough AI to aggravate you when trying to get a word in with ATC.

I have the smae system just about as you except your video board is a better model. I have a nvidia 7600GT. I keep my FPS locked at 20 and it usually stays there. At 20 it flies just fine, no chop or stutter.

With the default AI and it's settings I crawled at 4 fps if a 747 moved in the airport I was at. Thats cause the default AI uses the exact same 747 you fly, 2 or 3 of them and you have a slide show.

thanks bob , i am not yet up to all the terms yet but this gives me a better idea i can see what you mean about traffic setting . ? not sure what you call AI. i seem to be able to fly ok i get a few jaggies on wings and runways , not all the time though , just found out how to take shots via the V key . i have had road traffic set at 50% so ill lower that now but airpot traffic set very low , is this other traffic system easy to add as i have never done any additions as yet dav

Hello all, I'm new here to this forum. If you find your default AI traffic is a bother you might want to check out WOAI, lots of airlines/real time schedules. Beware though, if you install a WOAI airline it switches off your default AI traffic, all of it, general aviation included. This can be switched back in, I believe, by converting the WOAI files to FSX style, but I use WOAI and I find my frames are more stable and a bit higher. Cheers.

Your video card is setup wrong. you have plenty of power to run in the high 30s locked no jaggies

:wavey: thanks ted had a look at the site you recomended , the only thing is i recon its a little to advanced for me . so ill have to just move along as i have been doing , i dont want to muck up what i have already . i can at least fly it , just that every time i read the forum , guys with systems that seem of lower power are talking of rates far greater than i seem to get , i thought i was missing out a bit . i have a question i have read that the rates can be locked is this correct , if so how are they unlocked all best dav

forget the FPS and set up the sim so that it flies as smooth as you can get it. Having the FPS counter on costs FPS, leave it off.
Get your pc tuned up at FS-GS and then FSX will run smoothly as it does even on my single core 939 midrange pc.

This may not work for everyone. and may only be my demented machine. XP all updates. 3.60 processor on P4 ASUS mb. 2 gig ram 400hz and twin 500 gig HD's GForce Video card with a 22" LCD Monitor. Creative Labs Sound card. I also have duel operating systems (both XP) FSX is installed on the OS that is for gaming only so I have minimal background apps running.
My computer would be considered a "low End" system, but I have found ways to tweak it that FSX runs decent.

A trick that you may want try: I put the frame rate at unlimited and all of the sudden, I can run higher detailed graphics. All available controls are at either High or Ultimate High. My frame rate stays at about 22-25 fps, with no jitters or stutters. good enough detail for sight seeing at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. If your running FS2004, and do this little trick, you can max out all controls and get great frame rates.
