No, it's not a carrier plane. :-)
Just for ease of storage and transport.

The Fiseler 156 Storch had also this feature.

Realy, a great plane. I'm impatient :applause:

They even use the same engine, just the 108 makes 50 knots more with it.

RAF Aldon

impounded four Bf 108s on the outbreak of World War II and put into service, where they were designated Messerschmitt Aldon. As a light communications aircraft, it was the fastest type the RAF had at the time, but they caused some confusion by being mistaken for attacking Bf 109s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Bf_109). Post-war, 15 more captured Bf 108s flew in RAF colours

I love your eye for model and texture, Mathias. Your attention to detail really looks nice.

Although, I can see this one in something other than RW schemes. Several actually. I'm hoping a complete set of templates will come along with it.

You know Ole, I really love those fictituous paints that have recently been released for the FS9 freeware Taifun over at Avsim, looks very sportive. Sure hope some artists will pick up on it and do something similar for our bird post release.
And yes, there'll be a paint kit.

Superb.. I was thinking on the same. More on the classic era. The Taifun has great lines.

love the blue colour! :)

Quick question, the numbers overlayed with the imperial (?) digits, is that a real feature of the plane or so us that dont understand the metric system can still fly it? :icon_lol:

That's a Classics Hangar service for all you asymmetrically tuned mathematicians. :salute::icon_lol:
With the Fw190 we provided conversion charts in the manual but I think the switchable stickers are more intuitive to use for those who are used to knots, feet and inches of mercury.

LOL yeah, almost.
The 108 has quite an impressive low speed handling for that kind of aircraft with a flaps up stall speed of 54 knots and flaps down stall speed of about 49 knots.

What a unique plane... how fast goes it go?

Mathias
May 19th, 2011, 10:59
145 knots cruise, 161 knots max, and just below 50 knots stall speed with flaps down, Ryan.
Automatic leading edge slats give it an extremely good low speed handling.
1100lbs payload means you can throw in 4 people inclusive pilot without worrying about cutting fuel load or baggage.
Folding wings enable it to get stored away in your carport over the winter. :-)
Gas price is pretty low, literally zero. :-)

Oh, you miss out on a lot of inventions and history if you leave out German aviation,
for instance "ILS" approaches with a decision height below 50 meters three decades
before became practice in modern commercial aviation
But that's something to be implemented into our Bf110. :-)

It's not that I'm not interested.

But so far mostly military planes have been developed in FSX, and I simply will not fly with swastikas, even in FSX.
When you remove them on the other hand, it's not "original" anymore...

So I'm very please to see a nice German civilian plane in development ;-)

I agree with the above !

I prefer vintage aircrafts in their original liveries, although I must admit that those modern skirts make this plane into a very civilianized and up to date one... :salute:

All of the paint schemes are historical or historically restored as flying today so apart from operator's logos and the odd nav antenna they do look just like they looked some 75 years ago. Just shows how far ahead the design was back then. :-)

Mathias, in all your information gathering on the aircraft how many are still air worthy and flying today? Also can you point to a good read/book on the aircraft...

Thank you, she looks wonderful :applause::applause::applause:

dc, there still exist about 11 Bf108 and 40 or so Nord1002 (french post war bf108 production with Renault engine), not all of them airworthy though.
Here in Germany we have three airworthy Bf108, all depicted on the previous pages in this thread, D-EBFW, D-EBEI and D-ESBH.
D-EBFW is the one we have full access to and is paragon for our depiction.
It carries - with special permission of our aviation buro- the traditional code D-IBFW in large letters on the fuselage and the official registration in small letters on the tail.
There's not a lot readily consumable literature on the Bf108 available.
you can get the period manuals, and there's the odd article here and there in varous aviation magazines and some modeller brochures that deal with the aircraft.
The most comprehensive info in one piece is probably found in MONOGRAM Close-Up #5 from 1979. Having said that, most info we have gathered from the period manuals, from the owners of D-EBFW and from a formar Legion Condor pilot who flew Bf108, Bf109 and He111 during the war and unfortunately passed away just a few weeks ago.
