I'm taking continuous interest in non-naval aircraft lately and would appreciate your kindness in pointing some good freeware airbase scenery you may use.

Check out The Airfield Construction Group, they made UK bases like Bentwaters/Woodbridge, Marham, Coningsby and Cranwell. Best freeware airbases I have seen.

I like what MAIW (www.militaryaiworks.com (http://www.militaryaiworks.com)) has done. They did a series last couple of years of French fighter bases and the aircraft assigned. So it fits my interests. They only work for FS9 so thiings are simple but everything I need is there. And the sceneries can be brought into FSX where they work fine with some minor but not always necessary tweaking. And yea, it's freeware.

Wow, thank you so much, those UK bases are astonishing.

+1 for MAIW!!! There is a guide in the MAIW forum on converting the packages to FSX , and it is fairly simple. I have had really no issues at all, and there are packages covering many countries

FSX Use Disclaimer: Be aware that every system is different and what works for one may not work for another. While the MAIW work is excellent and does an excellent job of filling the Military niche for AI Traffic and nicely done Air Bases that many would never consider doing, there are tradeoffs when converting to FSX. Framerate hits can be excessive at times, scenery objects will not convert well (fences that don't show up and look like black walls, trees that have black rectangles, etc).

Also, while MAIW does supply a comprehensive manual for converting their packages to FSX, it is not a simple process and the manual encompasses every package they have available so searching for the ones you might want, takes time because each base may be slightly different and require somewhat different steps to convert.

Although Felix had no problems, I found the process cumbersome, at times confusing and not worth the hassle. . . .but that is just my opinion. I want things simple, a few steps and done. . .I didn't find that to be the case. . . .at least for me. So by all means, look at everything MAIW has to offer as they have the best selection by far, just know that it won't be as simple as installing the base package and then go fly.

I second that.

Well, personally, I can't have FS without military AI. It is the primary reason i was so reluctant to come to FSX. I love my ai in fs9, and mil ai particularly. can't live without it. After seeing posts in the past regarding issues with ai in general, not just MAIW, I decided to hold off on FSX. No other reason. Now that i am in FSX, I have not had many issues in conversion for FSX. But, as a contributor and beta tester for MAIW, I have quite a bit of in-depth knowledge of the file structure and compatibility issues. Falcon you are correct in every staement you make, and ultimately the choice is yours whether or not to fuss around with it. I totally respect that. It would be nice to see a bit more FSX developers creating FSX specific military US airbases, whether payware or freeware:salute:

Yea, I have to agree with that last statement Felix. I understand why MAIW doesn't design for FSX. I wish they would make the transition, but I understand why they don't. It would be great though to have a true FSX Military version of MAIW, lol. Personally, I would download everything possible if that were the case. I've been to a ton of Military Bases over my career and being able to revisit, especially with functioning AI would be awesome.

Please don't take my quote wrong here. I would love nothing more than military Ai in the sky. I even purchased airtraffic just to get a few military planes in the air.

Some great picks so far, spent a few hours flying around Coningsby just looking at every detail, and there's a LOT of it.

There is a bunch of Alphasim scenery, now freeware, here: http://www.easyfly.co.nz/Freeware/index.php?dir=/Scenery

Since I brought MAIW into the conversation I just want to add that I have used several of their scenery/AI packages in FSX (France has been covered by them pretty well) without the coversion process with no problems at all. I'm sure I'm missing something as a result but I've never noticed; I have a populated airbase to land at that doesn't look like the typical default "attempt".

That guide is a community wide project put together by several MAIW fans. It's their baby, not ours.

We have nothing to do with it other than serving as a place where people who make use of it can ask support questions (which are then answered by MAIW forum members, not MAIW staff or contributors). It's not even available on our site so I'm not sure how we could be supplying it to anyone.

Some awesome French military airfields right here:

These and the ACG bases are the best modern military bases I know of.

Hi,
I always and still consider Jim Dhaenens's NAS sceneries as THE top notch sceneries standard...

Brother, who cares whether you (MAIW) made it available or it was a community project? The fact is it is a guide for all the bases produced by MAIW and it is available to users of your files. You want an apology? Fine, I apologize for having caused you or MAIW any pain or suffering by suggesting that MAIW had any connection to the manual.
I don't understand the need of people to argue semantics sometimes, as though a small mistake in ownership would cause irreparable harm. Get over it and move on.

Bodø Norway (ENBO) home of 331 and 332 flying F-16's and 330 flying Sea King. A very good rendition of this airbase.

Nice work, TK - don't know why I missed that one altogether - native FSX non-modern scenery is a rare treat - bravo!!

I've been thrashing Hunters around the Aden/Gulf area lately, and found this lovely little gem, though intended for FS9, works just great:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/images/fscfiles/p/rafkhormaksar.gif FS2004 Scenery--RAF Khormaksar. An
important RAF station in Aden during the 1960's. Also includes HMS Fearless
complete with solid landing deck. By Ian Elliot.

I've not added Fearless to my install, since the available moving FSX Accel ships out there (Ark Royal, etc.) render static carrier ships somewhat obsolete for landable carrier ops in FSX (at least that's my opinion). But as military base, this is a very nice rendition of RAF Khormaksar. From an SOH member too, no less - way to go Ian!!

cheers,

DL

Try this...

http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fname=lied_fsx.zip

A nice NATO base in Sardinina, good for a start or end of a flight.

Also there are good bases here...

http://www.mirage4fs.com/scenery.html

There are some Japanese bases here...

Some are just new AFCADS with default objects, but they're better than the stock ones.
