If this were a payware version I would continue with but who needs two freeware versions of the same plane....

I have many more projects in the pipeline, so its over to you Tim.

Maybe Freeware designers should have a sub-forum to post about their projects ? to stop duplicate projects from happening.

OleBoy
April 29th, 2011, 11:43
Only comment I can think of is, DOH!!!

Roger
April 29th, 2011, 12:26
Both Tim and Craig should perhaps compare notes and decide that whoever started the project second could defer to the other? I know that Craig has had the Dornier as his avatar for some time now and I know that he has been working on it for some time as seen in his TOH forum threads.

Bjoern
April 29th, 2011, 13:57
or the 17??:icon_lol::running:

The 228 is cooler. WAY cooler.

To be exact, there's yet another Do-28 in the works by a german designer. But I think she's doing it for FS9...

Then again, why not continue the project anyways if you want to.
After all, there's more than one possibility to distinguish your model from the rest...

Btw: What's the other planes you'd do?

Piglet
April 29th, 2011, 18:44
Umm.. Never been in this situation before.
I say Full should continue with his DO-28. The main thing with doing freeware is doing what you want, when you want, and how you want.
So what if some one else is making the same thing.
And I never considered plane making to be a contest or sport.
P.S.
Air America is gonna be the primary texture for my Do-28. Hence the differing antennas and stuff.

huub vink
April 30th, 2011, 01:09
You're right Tim it definitely isn't a contest. I assume you both make models because you like it. So just keep doing what you like to do. I', convinced both models will have their own dedicated fans and there will be some who love both models.

I can imagine one of the joys is to create something which not has been done before. So one small hint...... nobody is working on an early Bf109 model ;)

Cheers,
Huub

Personally, I think that both Tim and Craig should continue with their Do-28 projects. Although they are the same aircraft type, they will be slightly different and some people may prefer Craig's while others may prefer Tim's. The appearance may be slightly different, the FDE's may differ and the fitting out may differ, depending on the research material available to each. The D0-28 is quite old now, so there will be variations in "standard" equipment in reality anyway.

If both Tim and Craig had acquired '66 Mustangs for restorations, nobody would expect one of them to stop because they learned of the other one, would they? Just think of the project in those terms and carry on - I'm sure they will both be excellent!

Myles

Bjoern
April 30th, 2011, 08:06
One of you guys could also turn his 28 into a 128 (the one with PT6s)...

Or even this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bf/D-IFNT-Do28TNT-1980.jpg

And I never considered plane making to be a contest or sport.

Now that would be something...72 hours, a set of three-views and all your airplane creation tools at your disposal. Who wins...wins.

... nobody is working on an early Bf109 model ;)

Tim mentioned an early 109 a long while ago.

September 27th, 2011, 12:47
I love normal mapping! Its a tricky thing and really hard to get those fine details. Are you using Xnormal or the Nvidia tools in Photoshop? One trick I found was to put a drop shadow on the rivits and then do the normals. It gives the rivits a dimpled look, like the body skin is slightly pulling away. Keep up the good work!

It looks amazing Craig I can imagine it will be very popular model as there are many who love GA aircraft. But as you might know GA aircraft aren't really my thing. Therefore I still have hope you will redo the He51 an Dewoitine 510 for FSX one day....

Yeah its great ! thats exactly how I do rivets as well, although I use Crazy Bump. Heres a couple more shots with some paint added this time to check the mapping is all correct.

Thanks Huub, lol I hear ya.

Which one.... the He51 or the Dewoitine....

Craig, you should know me by know *big grin* When it comes to vintage aircraft I become a bit greedy.... :icon_lol: But dont' worry as I realise your spare time is limited and I don't want to claim too much of it, I will try to behave.

Both aircraft as very interesting. The Dewoitine is one of the best examples "in between stage" of aircraft development from the fabric covered biplanes towards the "modern" full metal modern WWII fighters.

The Heinkel is much more conventional however it does have my preference, as for me it marks the birth of the Luftwaffe.

Now enough said on this topic for now. I don't want to distract too much the attention from your latest beautfiul model.

Cheers,
Huub
