After spending some time remaking the panel line and rivet layers, and with a little guidance from N2056, in the subject of normal, bump and spec maps, I'm trying my hand at them while tweaking Piglets Scrofa.

I'd say you've gotten the hang of it! :salute:
Don't confuse normal & bump maps though...their definitions are easily interchanged, and for the "process" we talked about they are basically the same thing.

I'm learning some neat tricks while playing around with the settings. Of course this led me to completely redo all the rivets, and most of the panel lines.

I've got no idea what the heck is going on. Or not going on. The canopy area will not accept bump mapping no matter what I try. I've changed x, y, raised elevation, changed azimuth, and all colors through out. Just to confirm I was not missing something, I loaded up Piglets default paint to see if the bumps were there. They're not. I just don't have any clue how to get them to show.

I do notice from an exterior view that the texture does not match the rest of the exterior color. My only thought is that Tim forgot a needed setting to accept the shine, and/or all the rest.

I admit I am new to learning this, but if I can make the bumps work (which I did) on everything but the canopy area, I covered all the bases.

I'll gladly accept any feedback to resolve this :kilroy:

Be careful when bumping rivits and panel lines. Way too easy to overscale the look, lending to the "Old Airfix Look" Even cowl fasteners, fuel caps, etc. are flush on most planes.
The canopy is on texture ss4p_02. This tex has a spec map, but no bump. Saw no need for it, as the SS4P has a flush riveted airframe. The bump on tex ss4p_01 is really just to give the wavy/ stressed metal look.

Hi Tim, I was hoping to get some form of response after sending you an email. Concerning the canopy, you will not believe how many hours I have into the interior trying to get the bumps to take. And, nothing. I was SO let down when I was told that , if there is no material allotted, bumps will not show. Boy, was that ever a BIG let down.

This is all experimental for me. A wide learning curve to be absorbed. And I'm going along fairly well so far. Lots of tweaking happening so far.

Your Scrofa, I love it. It's really neat. :salute:

I would like to ask you, if you wouldn't mind of course, would you mind creating a bump placeholder for tex sheet 2 and pass it to me? I would love to have the ability to bump the entire cockpit. It would give me a great amount of knowledge. Not to mention, really jazz up your model in my eyes.

Thanks for the response, Tim!

File received. Thanks for taking the time to create that, Tim. :wavey:
.......I've played with things in the cockpit a little already, as I already had nearly everything mapped prior to getting the new file from you. I'm not having much luck, YET! I will continue experimenting, in hopes of more satisfactory results :)

Along the same subject, (though over exaggerated yet) I've been refining the lines and rivets. After yet another reworked set of layers....lol. Notice the clarity (minus the blurred shadow effect) That's my goal.
