Ok, here is a fictional repaint of a real airline - Star Air Service fllying in Alaska in the 20's & 30's. Three aircraft, NC8410, NC8419 and NC9651 - all Ford Tri-Motors - flew for Star Air Service. Not able to find any pictures so this is what follows:

Thank you for the pictures. Never saw the Tri-Motor pics, did have a small color one of a wheel Bellanca for colors of plane and logo.
Used the Bellanca for example to paint the Ford - the Tri-Motor pics are 1943ish. Wanted a 1930's period. Great idea - may do another one, circa 1943 (also ownership changed in 1940, I think, and the name changed too).... take care.

I like how you enhanced the corrogation on the wings and fuselage Ed. Ads depth to this old glory.

Jeesh travel was slow back in them days. Imagine getting caught in some heavy thunder squalls at night in that thing trying to get your passengers to their destination. Want to feel disorientation, crank up heavy thunderstorms at night and fly her with those few instruments. Put her up there about 6,000 ft. What a ride!

They didn't have satelite weather and radar back in those days to warn of bad weather. I guess the best defense was to be a good navigator, know where your airports are at all times, and duck into the nearest airport when you encountered a long stormy squall line at night. Still I bet there were some that got caught up in them.

I think this is gotta be some sort of Flightsim record. At this moment Gary Smith's website list 164 repaints for the default Ford Trimotor. I don't think anybody anywhere has created so many texture variations for a single flightsim model....ever. Am I wrong?

Certainly solicits a high whistle and a holy smokes to begin with....

The plane below was real, flying out of Lansdowne field. In service for only about a month, she flew into the ocean in heavy fog just off of Dungeoness, Washington. I have (older) friends who can remember as children, Ford Trimotors flying in and out of Lansdowne, now the location of a shopping mall.

The last four mentioned above by Ed are now on the server - it takes a couple of hours for me to get them up - lot of background tasks to do before I publish - Names List - Date List - artwork and images for each, update the slideshow etc - then integrate them into their appropriate place within the 4 pages. But all done now and ready for you to play with.

That last batch makes it 252 liveries available - interesting numbers - if you flew each one for only 3 minutes it would take you 12.6 hours to check them all out...... Now there is a hard day's simming for you.

Hi Good People,

Well, believe it or not Edward and I have pushed on and ended up with 300 FREE liveries becoming available for the Ford Tri-Motor aircraft.

I am pretty certain that you would be hard pressed to find any other aircraft within any of the Flight Sim programs that have available 300 liveries for one aircraft available from one source and created by one person.

Ed has been a driving force for this project - doing tons of research and managing this project remotely and having to deal with my "artistic" digressions here and there. But the end result is a plethora of colour, covering some factual, fictional and fun liveries for this girl.

For those that may be familiar with the Default Microsoft Ford Tri-motor you will know that she is seriously limited by restricted surface painting facilities with many of the principle surfaces mirrored. Ed and I decided to treat this as a challenge and see what we could achieve despite these restrictions.

Anyway, despite Ed having still many more liveries for me to create we have decided to have a Pause at the 300 point and plan to have a Phase 2 later on with some more liveries in the future.

In the not too distant future I will be releasing a self installing executable which will enable you to download all 300 in one go and install them to your system.

Thanks for your kind words - This has got to be the biggest single focus (Ford Tri-Motor) project that has ever been done. Now venturing into Scenery to accommodate the many AI Fords that have been done, and many more still to be done.

Not super sophisticated scenery - but plenty of eye candy to make the experience a fun one.

Hopefully I will have at least 2 of the scenery packs ready for your enjoyment by the weekend. The plot is that the first one will be a monster - sorry around 50megs - containing KORS-ORCA and KERV and all of the scenery fundamental objects and textures. Plus a Pack of 47 Ford AI aircraft.

The subordinate scenery packs will contain just the bgl files specific to that location - drawing from the KORS-ORCA foundation. They will each contain the relevant AI aircraft pack for that location/region.

As mentioned I am trying to make the scenery fun - the India one is based high in the Himilayan mountains - with some great valley flying and a real challenge to get a Ford up to 17 thousand feet plus to land on the airport. The New Zealand pack will have the airport on a remote southern island - a simple airfield and a supper dupper space port for some fun visuals.


Japan - which I am tinkering with at the moment will be at Hiroshima airfield - this one will be just jazzed up to accommodate 18 AI Fords and made considerably more fun than the basic airfield that is there at the moment.


As for the Web Site - I appreciate that it is working well and is easily navigated around - Tried hard to stay with the era concept with a sepia basis for most of the artwork. Old Newspaper sort of thing - hopefully worth the read and gives you plenty to play with.

OK, Garry has added some new AI Scenery for the Ford Tri Motor - KERV (Texas), KORS (Orcas Island), FIND (India), RJOA (Japan) and FNZI/FNZS (New Zealand). Hi Folks,

As Ed advised above the Scenery page is now offering some of the Scenery Packs for download - KORS-ORCA is the Principle scenery pack and has all of the scenery objects and textures needed for it and the subordinate scenery packs.

KORS-ORCA also contains a fun tinker that I did to KERV (Texas) which I created way back at the beginning of the project when I thought (silly me) that Ed had finished his "Ford Obsession" - It contains the first 47 Ford Liveries all in the one airfield. This might be a little extreme for some systems - if so - simply delete a handful (ones that you may not like) from the aircraft.cfg file in the AI-Ford-Trimotor-KORS-ORCA directory in the Aircraft directory. That will reduce the number of aircraft at the airfield. Many will ultimately be used in some of the other scenery that has or will be created in the future.
