Yes, she is definitely a beauty!!! The exterior textures are right up there with the big boy payware crowd.:applause: I just finished an hour flying her and must also say she's very fun to fly also. She has the same "feel' to me as the A2A P-47, you know "heavy iron". With a full load of fuel you have to be on your toes to prevent accelerated stalls and other "ruin your day" mishaps.
Thank you very much for your talent and generosity, it is MUCH appreciated:salute:.

But was it all that shiny in the first place? The one area the Japanese lagged behind the US was in metallurgy. Japan had fine airframes. Strength to weight and design wise, they were often on par with ours. Lucky for us, their metals technology lagged behind, and they could never build high powered engines comparable to the US industry, that were deserving for their advanced airframes.

Meanwhile, the US turned out P&W Double Wasps that were designed for 2000-hp, but when tuned properly 3000-hp was not beyond a believable goal.

Hi Cazzie,
I don't believe the issue the Japanese had with their late war radials was a metallurgy issue. I believe it was because they were overly ambitious in their designs and toward the end of the war, their infrastructure was so demolished that they really could not execute anything properly.

Take the Nakajima Homare for example: If you look at the specs for the engine, it was a VERY small diameter radial engine for 2000 HP. Test examples were quite close to that. The production examples were just not up to spec. If you read the accounts of the 343 Kokutai flying Shiden-KAIs at the end of the war, pay attention to the number of aborts. Also note the two pilots (Kanno and Muto) who were most likely lost due to malfunctioning guns. Kanno's guns exploded when he tried to fire them. A recovered aircraft most likely belonging to Muto only had one of 4 cannon functional as could be seen by the remaining ammunition in the aircraft at recovery.

This Raiden is definitely very pretty. This little plane was a serious hot-rod for performance and handled very well from the pilots reports. Eventually I will have to try to build something for the older sims.

- Ivan.

Anyone want to recommend a sound file for this beauty? I never saw one but I'm guessing it sounded more like a P-47 than the DC-3.

Best, Paul

I'm using the Wings of Power Zero sound. It may not be realistic but it's a great radial sound.

Anyone want to recommend a sound file for this beauty?

Currently I am trying out the CSF2 A6M2 sounds by SOLOBO (Frédéric Bourmaut). SOLOBO has a number of nice CSF2 sound packs here at SOH. The A6M is here...

Lawdog and OBIO both have a large and excellent sound collections here also. Lawdogs N1K2J pack sounds great in the Raiden...

My thanks to all the people on the CFS2 department here at SOH for great sounds, and some very nice aircraft.

It is indeed, in my opinion, one of the best plane Tim has ever created. Thanks a lot Piglet :)
And I didn't know this American skin was historically correct, I thought it was just made for fun, but the picture in the previous page prooved me wrong. :salute:

I aliased the sounds to the A2A P-47, but then I don't get any flaps or gears sounds anymore. I'll check the CFS2 sounds mentionned earlier.

My time has been rather limited lately, but little jack is too much fun..

Still very much work in progress, but I thought I'd show you what I've done so far.
Good quality pics are pretty rare, but it seems paint quality in Japan was not brilliant, so I've been peeling a bit...
