Two new repaints of Manfred Jahn's C-47. The first is an R4D-6 assigned to MCAS Quantico circa 1958.

Anybody (of the " I can actually model these things" crew) getting any ideas?

(I don't know why they had a zoomie in the color guard, at the 1958 MCAAS decommissioning, but it must've be a whole lot more windy where he was standing...)

Me too, That's what we had at MCAS Beaufort when I was there. was at Cherry Point with MAG 32 and in 1957 Beaufort was reactivated and the group moved down there, that was my stateside duty station for the rest of my srevice time retiring from there in 1973. a MasterSgt was the main pilot of it if I remember right.

Hey now, you wouldn't want a zoomie to remind a valiant Marine of the proper position of a service flag at "Present Arms" would you? It looks to me that the USAF Flag is correctly dipped forward; your Marine needs to work on his "perpendicular to the deck at all times" interpretation. I would bring up the officers salute, but all you have to do is mention a certain USAF LtCol. with backwards epaulets and it kind of loses the punch. :jump:

It wasn't the about service flag being properly dipped, it was that your guy is listing 5 degrees to port (that'd be his left side)!

Ok Here's the bare metal version circa 1949, this one was assigned to FMFATL (The Jarheads will know what this stands for). It sports the short lived scarlet fin flash with USMARINES lettered in it. Extra points to the person who identifies the airport it's flying over in the last shot. I'll upload real soon.

I'll include a new panel for this. It's not as good as I would like, but until someone modifies the model with a real workable panel this is as good as I can do. I've modified my aircraft with the correct four tank mod and reworked the bitmap for the vc to reflect this. Each aircraft will also display the correct BuNo in the vc.

Thanks John , Brings back a few memories . Was stationed at Beaufort in HMS-32 , in 68 and 69 . Even in 68 I believe I faintly remember an R4D parked on the tarmac way down the flight line but it was so far away and I never went down there to check it out so it could have even belonged to the Navy or Air Force . . I did get a chance to ride in one when at El Toro MCAS , we went TDY to Yuma . I distinctly remember how cold it was inside (and oily smelling :icon_lol:it was)but the rumble of those great sounding radials made up for it .

Thanks again ,
Semper Fi ,

Rich

I was with HMS 14 in 78-79 and worked on the last two C-117s at Cherry Pt. I really wish some on with modeling skills would do 117.

John, those are beautiful repaints. And I'd also like to see a R4D-8/C-117 version made by somebody. Wouldn't be much of a stretch for Manfred (hint-hint) from the outstanding work he's already done on this C-47.

I worked on a C-117 with H&MS 32 back in the early 70's. It would loose an engine almost everytime it went up for longer than an hour.
