I just had a bluescreen and after reboot,i got
this message and FSX seems to be destroyed.
Also after reboot the scenery.cfg was empty.
No idea what this may have caused.
I copied the content from the scenery.cfg_ORBX_Backup over
into the empty cfg and FSX started again, but with many scenery anomalies.
I reran the FTX Central several times, all UT Setup tools and GEX tools.
Doesn`t work,FSX seems to be unusable.
Can i perhaps do something else to save my FSX installation(170GB!)
without doing a complete new setup?
Thanks
Michael

Another idea.
Can someone please send me his terrain.cfg
so that i can compare it with mine?
Perhaps a possibility.

I hope someone can help you Michael, it's what we all fear...the unwanted reinstallation of everything involved with FsX.

Go to Avsim and grab the modified Terrain.cfg file by Dick Ludowise and Luis Feliz-Tirado;

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=93289

It will restore default and some modified features of the Terrain.cfg file. What it won't restore is any changes made by add-ons that add to the file. If you have Ultimate Terrain X (any of them), then starting the UTX Setup Tool will make a scan of the Terrain.cfg file and it will readd the entries that UTX needs to function. I don't know how other products check or don't check and whether they need to be ON or OFF.

For the Scenery.cfg file, I would rename what's in place to Scenery.cfg.BAK and when you go to start FSX it will utilize the "default" version that sits in the main FSX installation folder. Again, starting the UTX Setup Tool will cause a check of the Scenery.cfg file and it will readd the entries that UTX needs to function. I don't know how other products check or don't check and whether they need to be ON or OFF.

You may then need to spend some "quality time" with your Scenery.cfg file getting it squared away to match what's sitting on your HD. If one of your add-ons made a backup that's spitting out errors it may still be useful to do some (a lot?) of cutting and pasting of entries into the new, pristine version FSX will be sitting on.

You aren't in an unrecoverable situation, but it will require a little patience and some cutting and pasting to get back to or close to where you were before.

You´ve saved my FSX installation,Meshman!
This Terrain.cfg error was created by the FTX central switcher,
it`s gone now.
I can switch all regions and Australia and North America(done by ORBX) are
completely restored.
Therefore i have 10grey hairs more now!
Only little problem, when i switch FTX Central to "default", i get lots of
black artifacts in the scenery with UTX and GEX enabled.
That`s not really a problem,now i don`t need FTX Central any longer.
Switched to Australia or North America i have no artifacts anywhere.
I have reran all UTX products and GEX`s,got no error.
Do you suggest,to rerun UTX`s to the initial settings?
I have set them up after Nick N`s advice and don`t want to do this,
afterwards i had to apply these settings again.
Many,many thanks again!
Michael

GEX shouldn't/wouldn't be affected by problems in either the Terrain.cfg or Scenery.cfg files. It replaces default textures and autogen placement in the primary FSX folders, so it should be OK.

If your UTX looks to be OK, leave it be. You could always go through the guide and make *sure* the settings still apply, but that's your choice.

On the artifacts, a picture or two would help. Since different products apply sometimes big changes to FSX, there can be residual problems when trying to get back to normal. Wrong autogen files, if one add on uses their version and copies out what is presently installed. But that "shouldn't" create any artifacts, just missing trees and buildings!

But it's good to hear you are almost back to where you were.

Okay,i think i let it,as it is----for me it`s really fine.
Maybe after trying too much things, nothing will work at the end.
I see it more as an improvement, that i now need the FTX Central no longer.
Ever hated this switching around.
Without your help,i could now install everything again,
this would took one week.
Hope, some days those tools are not needed any longer.
Thanks
Michael
