Thanks Henry, glad to see 80576. I think the T-33 served a 2nd duty for 2 decades as an "aggressor" entering Norh American air space which gave radar systems plenty of practice as well as interceptor pilots. These T-33 jets were eventually retired in the late 1980s if I recall properly. Their flights and duties were seldom known at the time except to radar stations on the ground, in the air, or the pilots of interceptors.

Thanks! Yes it is Tims model upgraded to FSX standards by Bill Stephens and a remarkable paintkit by Ed Wells, you should try a Dutch one.

I tried to upload the above repaint but the upload page keep saying "expiring". Oh well, i try tomorrow. Anyway here is the next one in line:

I'll be checking for paints, thanks.
It seems the T-33 is still useful............
"In 2010, a T-33 Shooting Star owned by Boeing was used as a chase aircraft during the maiden flight of the Boeing 787[2] and Boeing 747-8>"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_T-33_Shooting_Star
So I guess there must be a flying T-bird at Boeing, with a proper paint, perhaps.
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Boeing/Boeing-787-8-Dreamliner/1626144/

Now, I think Boeing has two T-birds. A google search even shows photos. Looks like Boeing tried mods for the T-bird as well.

Anyway the quite old "cast iron" T-bird seems very useful after so many years.

I have been looking at the air file and will post up an update tomorrow for those that want it. I think that it is a little more accurate. At least all of the instruments now properly behave.

This is the aircraft that keeps on giving. I can't believe the beauty of these repaints. Great work Ed and Henry!

As for the FDE, I really like the TV-2.air file that was developed for the T-33 a while back. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it is the most comfortable air file I've ever used. It is a thing of mystery and beauty -- to be able to fly formation for 2 hours doing loops and rolls and wingovers with my leader -- not a word spoken between us. That is an amazing air file, something we've only been able to do in this T-33.

Our last flight in the T-bird reminded me of something Jim Salter wrote:

"In formation with Minish one day, coming back from a mission, I on his wing -- without a word he pulled up and did an Immelmann, I as close as you can get, then another, then some loops and rolls, two or three away from me, all in hot silence, I had not budged a foot. The two of us together, not a word exchanged, like secret lovers in some apartment on a burning afternoon."

I assume that this was in F-100s, but Minish and Salter were also in the squadron when they flew F-86s - before the 22nd transitioned to the Super Sabre. It would be great to have an F-100 flight dynamic as beautiful as this T-33 one... but that is another post.

Minish was my father's flight lead for 6 months in the squadron... I'll have to ask him if he ever experienced the same treatment that Salter got.

It's 4:30 and I am rambling...... Thank you again everyone for making this beautiful aircraft. 1950s Jets Forever!!!!:salute::salute::salute:

Hi Henry

Congratulations on your great set of repaints. I have actually thought of uploading my own RDAF repaint of DT-404 that was used by the station flight at the former Vaerlose Airbase:

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo110/kimdahl_2008/DT-404_1.jpg

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo110/kimdahl_2008/DT-404_2.jpg

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo110/kimdahl_2008/DT-404_4.jpg

But as you can see, the repaint seems much too shiny on this version of the model, and I have never quite understood the inner workings of FSX textures. I mean both the visible texture + alpha channel AND the specular texture with its own alpha channel. So I guess that this bird just stays here on my own computer...

Best regards

Thanks everyone!
I'm now on vacations at my cabin, no photoshop, nor Fsx, i'll be back soon and look to the requests.
To Kim Dahl and other painters, i'll post a tutorial with pics for photoshop how to experiment with the spec maps, also i will share some metal overlay. Regarding spec maps, basically you just copy the painted main texture in another map.

Then convert to greyscale, imediately convert it back to RGB mode.

Then invert.

Now, if you want shiney regulate the "brightnes/contrast" switch to bright, the more bright, the more shine.

If you wish less shine, regulate to darker with the brightness/contrast switches.

Now you can experiment to the desired result. All in all it is a matter of tril and error.

Cheers

Convairs, T-birds, and Vampires ... and the man's takes a vacation to his cabin ... where's his priorities? LOL

Just kidding - of course. They're looking awesome. The "silver/bare metal" balance is a tricky one - but I think your recent bare metal shots show you're really nailing it perfectly (to my mind, anyway). The stenciling is just delightful.

Take your time - these and the Vampires - I know will be a superb hit!

many thanks again!

Hello Henry,

Thank you very much for the wonderful repaints of the T-33 for FsX Rev. A. A great art work. My favorite one is the Royal Danish paint scheme. But all other also are very good looking too. I like the very fine skin details you have introduced in your repaint. It give a realistic view of the aircraft.

May I hope one day a french air force repaint for this model?

Once again thank you very much for such wonderful art work. Have a good day.

I have a problem that is preventing me from getting any download from SOH. I initiate the download and it then proceeds until all the bits in the file are transfered - BUT it will not finish (terminate) the download - it will still "attempt to download forever. Therefore I can not pick up the desired item (Henry's Canadian T-33 texture, in this case). Any ideas on how to solve this? Henry: Is this texture available elsewhere? I have NO other problem downloading anywhere else other than SOH.

Bill

Downloaded fine for me. Does this happen with any of the other (flightsim, avsim) downloads? I'm guessing it's not just SOH. Try another to test.

Log out of SOH, log back on.

If persists, try rebooting - including your cable modem (if you have one).

PS: Henry - looking forward to that bare metal/orange RCAF scheme - she's a looker! :)

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u36/Wyrneh/Jetfighters/t33b.jpg

ps: The RAF-style flash in the above repaint would have started disappearing in 1955 and totally gone by 1958. So depending on what exact time period you're depicting, the tail flag most commonly in the RCAF period of the CL-30's life (from delivery in 1952 to the end of "RCAF" and beginning of unification/maple leaf markings in 1965-68) would have been the Canadian Red Ensign. Not saying the flash is inaccurate - just saying the more common configuration was the Ensign.

A good resource for RCAF, CAF, and FIP schemes is here: http://www.canmilair.com/schemes.htm

Thanks again - it's nice to see the various countries air arms represented in this model - certainly the work so far looks superb.

I'm sorry ti disapoint you, but i couldn't find any reference material to my preliminary test for the canadian bird as you show in the picture. Instead i found another that is more like an authentic CT-133. It has several flaws, but is the nearest i could do according to the reference material i have in posession and skills.

Keep in mind that the shots of my repaints are taken in certain relation to the sun (light) and probably look better than "in game" so the textures will be a disapointment .

Just came across this pic online

One of 14 Canadair Mk.3 Silver Stars purchased by Air Combat Warfare International in Kitchener, Ontario, after its retirement from CF service, 133577 was registered as N577KK.

A very nice Can-Am scheme. I'm hoping maybe Henry will think so too ;)

I've uploaded USAF 278, Luftwaffe, French Air force and a CAF cammo variants of the T-33.
The metal textures have been redone as the previous uploads looked horrible from certain angles, particularly the underside looked really bad. I'm considering redoing the uploaded CAF, RNLAF and USAF paints, we'l see.

I'll consider all the requests, but no promises :bump:

Hello Henry,

Your wonderful repaints give us several examples of the paint schemes bear by the T-33 around the world. We can make a virtual tour around the world just by using the repaints you have uploaded from north to south from east to west.Thank you very much for all these art work. Bravo

Have a good day.

Fantastic repaint, I specially like the Dutch one :jump:
I'd love to do a 32nd TFS paint for it, but I'm kind of lacking the time for it...

Vincent, there's a bigger photo of that aircraft in post #18.

Still would like to see a 'Whiskey-4' repaint done (See same post); if anyone's interested I've collected plenty of photos.

Seeing this thread makes me wonder why no payware developer has made a state of the art model of this aircraft, they missed a golden oportunity!

Well, why would you make a payware version if a freeware model that's just as good is already available..?

I don't think C means that a payware dev should do one now - I believe he's suggesting that had a payware dev done a model back before Falcon and Radioman did all their work on revamping this model that a payware release would have been very successful. If so, I agree with him - a near universally adopted trainer that was used for over four decades.

Things being what they are though, the window for such a product to succeed commercially is almost closed - a great freeware model with a ton of repaints ... I agree with Ferry. Only a "study" (aka Accusim) sim version would sway a few hard-core T-bird purists to fork out extra dough - but the bar has been set exceedingly high with the combination of the updated model and new paints.

I'm a big fan of the T-bird but honestly, this model, and the great repaints coming out for it - more than adequately scratch my T-Bird itch.

Henry - your late era CF scheme rocks!!! What a surprise - was hoping for that one, but felt I had made too many requests as it was, couldn't bring myself to suggest it. Thanks so much. It'll be the official squadron hack companion for my CF-104 #707 in similar colours ....

... also painted by Henry!

Thanks so much - looking forward to these.

ps: Your Luftwaffe paints looks delightful too.

But there is one in development :jump:

Classic Jet Simulations is making one for Prepar3d and FSX. It was announced last year on the Prepar3d site. I haven't heard anything of it since but I haven't really gone looking. Click the picture for link.

Classic Jet Simulations have one product on their site, and another in development. Both for X-Plane. Hopefully the T-33 isn't on there because it is being done under contract.(?) Their CF-104 looks nice.

Interesting - not knowing anything of that sim, I had no idea. It will be interesting to see what happens to that T-bird. Looks good in that one shot - looks like it's a ways way yet.

You're right, the CF-104 looks delightful.

Learn a new thing every day ... :)
