I have a problem with my VC cockpit engine sounds. They are very faint/muffled. But it is not with every aircraft. This happens only with FSX. In FS9, the sounds are fine.
At first, I thought FSX made the engine sounds quite to simulate having a headset on. Now I just realized that this faint sound is happening with two engine aircraft, such as the default DC3, Goose. Single engine aircraft are fine. Some addon multi engine aircraft sound good, like the A2A B17, but the JF DC3 is very faint.
Panning around in VC makes no difference. Outside sounds are fine.
I have turned the in game sound on and off, and makes no difference.
I have tried several different sound sets from FS9 aircraft, and the volume is good, but sound seems to "float" around between the left and right speakers.
I can play the individual sound files with WMP and each one sounds good this way.
I have searched the web, and have not found anything that helps.
I have a two speaker plus subwoofer.
I have no sound card, integrated, managed by Realtek. Set for two speaker stereo.
My system, I7 960, Gigabyte X58A-UD3R mobo, WIN 7-64.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

Have you tried to fine tune the sounds in
Options-Settings-Tone?
Only one thought.

Yes, I have tried many different settings in the game and in the Realtek manager without success.
