Over the years I've collected quite a few utilities but really haven't used or installed many. I wanted to get some recommendations from the group on what FS2004 freeware utilities would be considered must haves that would make my FS2004 experience better. For example aircraft management and so on.

Thanks,

T.

Recommendation #1:

Category: Flight Simulator 2004 - Utilities (http://library.avsim.net/index.php?CatID=fs2004util) FS Scenery Manager v1.8 http://library.avsim.net/images/ZipDive.png (http://library.avsim.net/zipdiver.php?DLID=155839) http://library.avsim.net/images/Download.png (http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=155839)
File Description:
FS Scenery Manager is a little tool to manage easily sceneries of FS2004. The main function is the possibility to classify scenery into folders, for a simplified management of several sceneries in one click. Moreover you can add more than one scenery with the scan function. Version 1.8 adds a check function (available in the V1.7 but with a possible crach) and now this functionality is documented. For more details see the pdf in the zip file.

#2:

Pete Dowson's Autosave
It will save flights ("STN" files) at regular intervals, so you can retry that crashed landing or quickly recover from other problems.

I have that one for FSX and it works great, highly recommend it. . . .however, the FS9 version (at least the only one I can find) is entirely in German. Unusable for me.:salute:

Get a good screen shooter. Which one is best will take up another thread as long as "disregard," but I like FSScreen (http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=fsscreen.zip) because it's dirt simple and takes up almost no resources.

The latest FSUIPC (http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html) is also handy for certain gauges and a few other utilities to work.

There are a few third party weather apps out there too (payware) that give you better weather realism than the stock weather engine. Try Active Sky (http://www2.hifisim.com/node/5).

Autower and FSRecorder. Maybe classed as plug-ins rather than utilities? But good none-the-less.

Plus one for ACM.

I second the rec for Flusifix. It does all sorts of useful things including a guage cleaner, too many to list really.

Also ACA2007 is a good one to help keep your FS9 folder clean.

FSRenum will renumber your fltsim entries in order for you, a must have for AI geeks.

GPU-Z.0.3.0.exe will diagnose your NVidea card (if you have one), lets you know if you are getting the most out of your card.

ScanAFD will scan your folders for duplicate AFCAD files.

This is a link to our "Tools" section of our site, some good utilities listed there as well.

F1View is very handy.
Second that!
Just a small issue I've realized:
Some VC equipped with gauges activated by the mouse wheel (HDG knobs etc.) won't work, as mouse wheeling changes zoom view within the VC ...

Cheers,
Markus.

I just spent an hur or two with the "Scan AFD" tool......what a great little app. I found all kinds of anmolies that I would have missed otherwise w/o having to go thru each individual folder and compare them to the other folders till my eyes became pools of blood! Thanks for the great tip.
