from the looks of the fire damage, i'd say they were pretty low on fuel...which is fortunate for the six survivors

Aircraft was on a scheduled flight from Belfast to Cork. There was very dense fog at EICK this morning which resulted in the aircraft flying 2 missed approaches. Apparently, during the 3rd approach the aircraft came in too fast, bounced and rolled on it's back. Amazing that anyone survived.

The pilot tried the second approach from the opposite direction, and aborted the landing.
On his third approach he tried the planned landing again...
Would the second failed landing not have been enough to divert the plane?

Depends on his companies operational procedures....multiple approaches in poor visibility are very common.
