Ed, just a few details on the first two cars and some Olde Pharyte waffle on the third.

The yellow 512S is almost identical to one that was entered in the Tour d' France in the very early 1970s.
It was either the Equipe Nationale Belge car or this one from Scuderia Montjuich.
Imagine running on of today's LM projectiles on a seven day combination of circuits and public road rally!!

I was very privileged to be at the Australian GP in 1968 when that Dino (or the sister chassis) missed out on victory by a gnats cock.
Chris Amon and Jimmy Clark exchanged the lead two or three times on the final lap with the Lotus just heading the Ferrari for what became Jimmy Clark's final 'Grand Prix' win.
One of the Tasman Dinos remained in New Zealand, owned a driven by one of the best of the Kiwi stars (Graeme Lawrence) in the Cup as late as 1971.
Always a front runner and defeating all but the very best of the F5000 entrants, IIRC Lawrence won the Tasman once and (possibly) twice.
An absolutely lovely little car.

And just for a bit of a laugh, at the start of what became 'Officially' the Tasman Cup series, one of the top Kiwi drivers had a 'Tasman Special' built for his use.
As the 246 Formula 1 cars were obsolete in 1961 the Ferrari artisans squeezed a 3 litre full bore Testa Rossa V12 into a similar chassis to the one shown.
Of course, it ended up at the back of the field dicing with the Aston Martin owned by Lex Davison ........ both cars being totally out classed by the Coopers and Lotus 'state of the art' runners.
Very sad to see, as (in my eyes) I loved the sight and sound of those two cars each lap as they came down hill through the 'esses' and through Dandenong Road corner onto the very long front straight, two real 'Racing Cars'.

Jeez........................I'm older than dirt!!!!

Nice images BTW.

Older than dirt? Me too!

I remember going to the old Vacaville track and saw the first running of the then new Maserati birdcage. I remember the lovely ripping sound of the Testa Rosa's running down the straight. I remember seeing Dan Gurney in the pits before the race.

I was 16 at the time and I had a friend that taught me how to drive in his Morgan +4. That car is my old time favorite, Red with black fenders, wire wheels, and a Nardi steering wheel. In those days, times were different. After the race you were allowed on the track to make some fast laps which we did in the Morgan. One of my most favorite memories of growing up.
