G'day all.

I have returned to sim flying. The last couple of years have been busy, and I had totally forgotten the sim. Now I have returned, but everything has changed. I do have fsx but it doesnt run great on my 4 year old system, which kicks butt on Fs9. What I am looking for is what is the great stuff i have missed? I'm looking for some good environment textures too. Also where does the SOH folks fly online? I can't seem to find the netwings server anymore.

Cheers,
James.

We now have two servers in the SOH family. www.sim-outhouse.com Sim-Outhouse Combat Flight Center and www.sim-outhouse.net Sim-Outhouse Flight Center.

The Flight Center known as SOH FC is our FS Host server and our TeamSpeak 3 server. Those of us who fly on line are there most days.

Especially now with the Big race less than two weeks away.

Textures and other answers will leave to someone else but Obio had a Great thread here awhile ago called "Making FS9 look great for Free"

You find it and it will answer a lot of your questions.

Hi James, there have been a lot of great aircraft released for FS2004 while you've been gone (both payware and freeware). Have a look at this thread which showcases most of the freeware 'must haves' but some of the newer releases may be missing.

Unfortunately the Netwings server went offline a while ago. However, SOH now has it's very own online MP server for FS2002, FS2004 and FSX. In fact there are four servers with different hop lists running on each one (some change on a monthly basis while some are semi-permanent). In addition we also have a SOH Teamspeak 3 server available to members.

There is also a new SOH dedicated MP forum located at:

http://www.sim-outhouse.net/forum/forum.php

You will need to register over there too if you want to use the forums as the two sites are separate entities entirely.

Information on connecting to the SOH MP servers can be found here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.net/forum/showthread.php?8-The-Flight-Server-is-Open

Information on connecting to the SOH TS3 server can be found here:

Hope that helps and welcome back.

EDIT: I see Dave beat me to it while I was typing but getting the same news twice is always better than getting none at all! ;-)

Welcome back to FS9 and SOH.

As DangerousDave already mentioned, the thread I started on Making FS9 Look Great for Free will fill you in on a wide range of visual improvements for FS9......I am the King of Freeware (not by choice, but because my 6 foot 5 inch ex-Russian special forces wife would beat me up if I spent hard earned money to make my cartoon airplane game, as she calls it, look better). There have been some really drastic advances with packages that make the sim clouds look almost as good as the ones in the sky outside our windows, advances in mesh that make the FS9 world look so breathtaking. A lot of folks chimed in on that thread, giving suggestions for freeware enhancements that they use and swear by.

And as Tako-Kichi mentioned, the Freeware Gem thread, started by Tom Clayton, is a wealth of knowledge about the best freeware aircraft packages, and some scenery, available. Most of the items mentioned in that thread are easily downloaded from the major download sites. There are so many great freeware aircraft that there really is little need to buy payware aircraft.....though there have been some great payware items released in the last 4 years....and a lot of former payware stuff that has been released as freeware (check out the huge collection of former payware FS9 stuff by Alphasim that was made freeware at http://www.easyfly.co.nz/Freeware/index.php).

After reading through the two threads mentioned above, if there are any questions you have....please feel free to ask them here in the FS9 forum. There are many many great people who make up this forum who are generous with suggestions, tips, advice....and who are willing to answer any question...even if it has been asked and answered many times before.

OBIO

PS: My wife isn't really a 6 foot 5 inch ex-Russian special forces member...she just acts like one!
