I just downloaded the new Betty from Flightsim and just wondered everyones opinion of it. It seems ok ,the panel is a bit sparse and the pilot sits on the right side, is this how the real plane was configured?
Also according to the readme it says to use shift+e+2 to see the flight crew jump to action stations, when I do this the copilot pops up from the left side to help the pilot steer on the ground and the throttle quadrant pops up. I also get the copilot poping up when I hit the shft +e to open the exits which is fine.
Just wondered what everyone thought of it. Thanks

Haven't tried it yet but the pilot on the right side is correct for Japanese bombers, at least for the IJN, not sure about IJA.

Curious. Old girlfriends turn up in when least expected.

That's Stuart Green's G4M1 model, available here:

http://homepages.domicilium.com/peveril/hangar/planes/betty.htm

He created the model in 2006, I wrote the flight model, and we both had massive assistance from Toru Morita, aka Talos2005. The model is mid-life FS9, so I'd think the level of detail is relevant and balanced for the time. I just peeked at it, still looks good to me. It's no accusim thing, but it'll give you a good idea how the G4M was like to fly. Run it in CFS2, you'll find out how it got the "Flying Ronson" nickname......

I remember that Toru was very intense in his desire for accuracy, and offered a constant stream of flight model revisions....it's seems like about 5000 recalls to the shop floor. He was very pleased with the final offering, and I think Stuart and I each lost about five/six pounds through sweat.

There's a couple of good repaints by Morton for the CFS2 model, they work well in FS9. Here's a link to his site, look for Betty-X2.zip.

I'm not sure if Mr. Scrub has made any changes to his upload, or if he's just checked it out in FSX and is re-uploading it. It's nice to see him revitalizing all these older model. Many relenvancies to be experienced, or re-experienced, thanks to him.

Gee....2006 is getting to be a long time ago now.....eh?

Magoo,

Thanks for all the effort you guys put into the Betty. It's always been a great performer in both CFS 2 and FS 9 for me. It's fun to retrace some of the flights and missions these planes took over China, New Guinea and the various Pacific islands. Some of my favorite flights are out of Rabaul down through the Solomon Islands. I guess that at least a hundred Bettys must have met their demise in those Islands. At any rate it's fun to fly the Betty down the "Slot" on to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal or to fly it from Lae up and over the Owen Stanly Mountains to Port Moresby.

I wish Talos was still about. He was always a wealth of info, but I lost track of him after he left NY and returned to Japan.

I actually forgot about Stuart until this topic arose again. How is Mr. Green? I hope he is riding the wave enjoying his flight-sim retirement.

In all honesty, I wish he would find his mojo and come back to join us again.

Whatever he's decided as his need in life, Stuart, Thank-You for all the toys you given us to enjoy. :medals:

Hi SOLOBO,

Morton's website is gone now, and I've just checked the Warbird's Archive here, and the link is broken. Probably files lost when this website suffered hacking damage a few years back. I've found the two skins by Morton in my CFS-2 archives, they'll work fine in FS9. Allow a little time, I'll see what I can do to re-upload them to our archives here.

I had to sift through all my links to find it. I knew I had it somewhere. I got to keep my homeage sim afloat!

Well, you know...it's a good thing. I have about a quarter of the material that Morton originally posted.....and it's all top drawer stuff. I'll take the opportunity to download and archive from your link. I think one of the greatest strengths we have as a group in flightsim interests, is our collective ability spread the files around as loss preventative insurance. Thanks for posting that link, OleBoy.

SOLOBO....very welcome.

Let's fly.

I have a lot of Mortons goodies as recommended by OBIO a couple years ago for CFS2, to mods for FS9 use. There's some real nice stuff out there from CFS2 that work pretty slick in FS9 :medals:

Come to think of it. Has there ever been a thread here where everyone lists the CFS2 goodies that do well in FS9. I mean with the mods and all the rest that's involved to get them to work?

I would imagine so. I figured I would mention it at any rate.

Magoo and others,

Morton's stuff is not lost, it's simply in the new library. Here is a link to the Betty files you uploaded a duplicate of: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=60&id=626

Here is Morton's stuff...

LoL...!!! It's a MORTONFEST....!!!

Thanks Rami.

......Has there ever been a thread here where everyone lists the CFS2 goodies that do well in FS9
....You might be onto something there. I've converted plenty of Thicko and Wofie models...(among others)...that have worked very well. A little (or alot of) flight model twiddling....something rare and unique has sprung from a black & white text book and into FS9 technicolour.

A little Avia flight time is needed first....and maybe there'll be the start of a CFS2 to FS9 thread.

...I like it.
