Does anyone know?

I'd prefer freeware but a low cost payware would probably be ok.

IIRC the only options for Fs9 are the default and the Maam-sim DC-3. The Maam-sim goon is the best by far!

For the moment that is quite a simple answer. Mid Atlantic Airmuseum Sim or MAAM is the top of the heap for FS9. It is pay ware but your purchase supports the upkeep of the real airplane.
There are tons of brilliant repaints, some of the nicest by one Wild Bill Kelso and a nice variety of models for both civilian and military variants including the rare amphibian XC-47.

In the near future there will be a new freeware release by Manfred Jahn. Initially only for FSX but a FS9 compatible version is in planning as well. And by what he has shown so far over at CalClassic this new C-47 will be stunning.

Have to agree, the MAAM Dakota is pretty much the only game in town and is, like all their products, the gold standard by which others have to measure themselves. Well worth the (relatively) modest outlay, and your money goes to a good cause as well.

Ok I just looked. $30 is a bit more than I'd like but it's really nice and I'll go for it when I get my next ss check in a week. Thanks for the info.

I don't think you will regret it. In my opinion it is in the top five best aircraft (payware and freeware) in FS2004 and you will put many hours on it.

Hi,

ah, the MAAM R4D/DC-3. Fond memories. That is the aircraft that I learned to fly in, whatever it means.

First time I actually hit a runway on landing. Let's ignore the fact that I was 30° off the runway heading and that an AI C-172 had just taxied into the touchdown spot...

A marvelous manual that just goes through every single item and then walks you through a complete flight. That was back in FS2k, more than 10 years ago.

Then, after installing FS2k4, I felt ill at ease with the default DC-3. But after release of the MAAM version, I installed it and I instantly felt right at home. Great plane, great FS model.

Best regards,
Volker

If you want a "BIG BANG" for no "BUCKS" there are alternates ,Not detracting from the great MAAM ,or any other Fine models. But for instant gratification, until SANTA comes along, you may wish consider this. ... I found hours of Flying in the Default FS9 DC-3..only .when it went thru a metamorphose of sorts ..its OK.

An other model ,which Just today , dug out and I'm enjoying ...is DC-RR41p...Old Time Stuff!

Along with all the Re-Paints Avaiable, one can make a fine fleet...The Venerable DC-3,has been around so long, who really knows what its supposed to be like.anywho?..Dam its almost as old as me!......HAPPY LANDINGS!..Vin http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon22.gif

Well, after consideration I'm still going to get the MAAM package. The quality just shines through.

I'm in the process of changing my fs9 configuration from a modern setup to a combo silver/golden wings and expect to put in a lot of time with it.
