A friend brought this one to my attention:

http://www.spokeo.com/

Do you like your personal information passed around on the net? Age? Phone number? Number of family members? Didn't think so.

I opted out and had my profile removed straight away.

Well, so far my stealth is good, there are four people there with my name, none being me! :>)

Some things, I have never had a telephone registered in my name, two, I rarely order online, save sim material, and three, I never serve on jury duty!

Thanks for the link head's up!

Although their instructions for the URL were rather vague, I did manage to remove my profile from their listing. To my surprise, it actually worked! :ernae:

I was a bit amused though when they obviously had concantenated several other similarly named individual's information with mine...

I am (almost) 62, not the 90+ they listed
I only wish my income was in the $200k + range!

NOTA BENE!

Be sure that you search using your email address as well, otherwise your information may not be totally blocked!

Interesting site. I looked up myself, some of the info is correct, some is not. Actually, much of this info is public, just now with the internet, it is easy to see.

Interesting and, if everyone was aware of all the places that their information can be trolled from, they might be smarter individuals.

lolol.. They said I was in my 70's, that I made 162K a year, that I was married to my mother, and my brother was my son. I am 49, and I dare not tell you how much I make or you will pitty me, lol... goodness. A fictional, half real website..

Actually, the only bit of information that really bothered me was my phone number...

Since it is a cellphone number, it's not published in any phonebook, and I've never given out my number except via email to selected and known individuals... :wavey:

I haven't opted out yet because it states I need to give then an email address for vericifation. I've seen this trick before, I still get dozens of spams a day on an address I gave out once over a decade ago. Not saying they will sell your email address, not saying you will get spammed, but curious.....

And yes, I know I could create a yahoo or hotmail address for this but if they do sell email addresses, then they wouldn't really delete our records anyway, they'd just sell them to someone else so it would just end up a waste of time....
