How would I go about putting gun effects on a plane. To be more specific area of the plane the nose (like on a P-38). I know it won't do any damage but it looks cool.
The best example I can think of is on the A-1 skyraider. Don't remember who the plane is by.

The A-1 skyraider is by Tim "Piglet" Conrad, as are many high quality freeware planes.

Have a look at the gun addon packages I made for various aircraft.
E.g. file rcbsc-20.zip on avsim.com or flightsim.com (intended for RealAir's Spitfire, but can be easily used in other aircraft as well)

Here's one of Rob's excellent creations wedded to a Mustang

Is there a rocket effect which does explosion and temporary colouring of ground effects(like we can do for the water dump effects)?
to DaveQ
Is this the A2A stang?would you give the coordinates of the aircraft entry?
Thanks

Ok...Found the zip file and got it downloaded. Looks great. But one last small request. These effects are from the wing area. I need it to work at the nose of the plane. The file has the following areas (I think)
light.3= 10, 2.7, 6.8, -1.9, SpitfireCannonV2
light.4= 10, 2.7, -6.7, -1.9, SpitfireCannonV2
light.3= 10, 2.7, 7.40, -1.9, SpitfireCannonV2
light.4= 10, 2.7, -7.26, -1.9, SpitfireCannonV2
Can these be reposition near the nose.
As always thanks.

I use the weapons pack. Has rockets and missiles,but have not see a explosion effect from them. The bombs do.

The coordinates for the A2A Mustang are:-
light.9= 1, 1.7, 7.2, -1.75, Me262Cannon
light.10= 1, 1.7, -7.2, -1.75, Me262Cannon
light.11= 1, 1.7, 6.4, -1.8, Me262Cannon
light.12= 1, 1.7, -6.4, -1.8, Me262Cannon
light.13= 1, 1.7, 8.0, -1.7, Me262Cannon
light.14= 1, 1.7, -8.0, -1.7, Me262Cannon
That's as close as I can get them.
I also have them on the AS F-101A/C Voodoo, the AS F-105 and the Captain Sim F-104G. I'd like to know if the cascade of shell casings can be removed since most modern jets retain them (I think....!).

Yes, very easy. But you have to experiment with the "start"-position of the effect.
I.e. the coordinates (in feet) relative of the datum (model-center) position of your aircraft.
Like in
light.3= 10, 2.7, 6.8, -1.9, SpitfireCannonV2
2.7: the longitudinal offset
6.8: the lateral offset
-1.9: the vertical offset.
Just play with these values, and you can place the effect anywhere you like.

Yes, but you have to edit the .fx file.
Don't know myself how exactly, since I have ampel knowledge of effect files (this one was created if I remember correctly, by Jan Rosenberg).
I just made the controls and sounds.
