Hi All.

I've got 6 new skins ready for Roger Hardy's FS2000 Meteor FMk8, which was converted for CFS2 by Dakota93, as well as 4 new skins for his Vampire F3. I want to check that they're OK with them before I upload, but I can't seem to get hold of either Roger or Dakota93. Can anybody help?
The Meteor skins are 3 Israeli Air Force and 3 Egyptian Air force and the Vampires are 2 Egyptian, a Jordanian and an Iraqi (I've got a Middle Eastern thing going on at the moment).
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

PomBee.

PomBee,

Great work, they look fantastic! :ernae:

Not to be a complete weasel or anything, but AlphaSim recently released their CFS2 Meteor as freeware.

http://www.alphasim.co.uk/fwd.html (Look under Freeware - Royal Navy)

Perhaps these skins could be adapted? :redf:

I must confess that I looked at the Alpha meteors as the basis for these projects, but I had loads of trouble with them. I kept getting an error message saying that the program couldn't find the flight model or something. I tried loading the FS version and converting the model, but the same thing happened!! If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem, I'll have a go at transferring the skins.

Cheers.

Thanks for the skins Pombee. I will use the Vampire skins on my converted 2004 version of Roger's Vampire....it is shined and gives better frame rates than the 2000 version.

Looking forward to the skins Pombee. I'll use them in my 1960s CFS 2 installation.

No need to try and convert the FS 9 Alphasim Meteor. I've never had any trouble with it in CFS 2 other than aliasing the engine sounds to a jet file. For those that don't have it, the CFS 2 and FS 9 version is available here:

http://www.alphasim.co.uk/fwd.html

She's a pretty sweet ride in CFS 2.

The CFS2 ALpha SIm Meteor is also in our very own library, under ALphaOldies (search by author).

Help!!!!
I downloaded the Alpha Meteor again, this time from the SOH library under Alphaoldies. I can get the Meteors to come up on the Free Flight menu, but, when I try to fly them, I'm still getting the error message "Unable to start up flight model". Am I doing something wrong or could it be a system problem?

Obio,

I'd be very interested in that FS2004 Vampire. Where can I get it?

Cheers,

Just to let you know....you are not nuts. I downloaded and installed the Meteor and also got the error message about the flight model. When I installed it shortly after it was released as freeware, I did not get this message and the plane flies well. Something has changed in the package between the initial release and now....somehow.

Concerning the Vampire...will have to do some digging to find where I got the model for sure. Either SImviation, Flightsim, or AVsim.

OBIO

Just took a look at the files in the two Meteor installs....the install that works has a separate air file for the F3 and F8 version, the install that does not work has only an air file for the F3. The date on the non working air file is Sept 2003, the date on the working air files is June 2008. Maybe the FS2004 package mistakenly got uploaded as the CFS2 version.

On Flightsim.com: Look for FS2004 updates to Roger Hardy's original Vampire (17071.zip, vampcraf.zip) If you do a search for Vampire, the second page of files has a lot of skins for the FS2004 update by Capt. D'Attomo.

And for FS2002 updates by David Frisell (Vampire3.zip and vam_cfg.zip).

These packages will need converted to CFS2...but they are shined, It's been a while since I had my Vampire in the air, so I can not remember if they have VCs added or to what degree they have been animated.

I've just logged back on to say that I've sorted the problem and discovered that Obio had the same idea. I actually used the airfile from Roger's F8 and it flies like a dream. I've also modded one of the IAF skins to fit (requires a bit more tinkering before I'll be happy to upload it). I also want to play with the Dp a bit to get some heavy hardware onboard.

Hey Wing Co Cawte,

How's it going? Glad to see you're still flying the Spits.

Thanks, Guys.

PomBee.:ernae:

P.S. Obio, Thanks for the Vampire info. I'll let you know how I get on.

I know this is an old thread ... but I too have a bit of a Vampire itch going on (nothing to do with the Twilight, thankfully! :) ). Wondering how this all shook out ... I found the "files" in the SOH Library - but it was only a link - the files themselves weren't there any longer.

Assuming we could track those down, the bigger question I have for you PB, is how did you use these? I'm not aware of any ME campaigns out there, was there any missions or campaigns for which the the Vampire would be appropriate? I'm guessing an RAF Vampire could work in FF4 Korea somehow, though of course fictional.

Thanks,

dl

I seem to remember about a year ago there was someone had a problem with the Alpha Meteor airfile and Oldwheat provided a couple. That was the Meteor, wasn't it?

Don't know about the Vampire, but TR has posted complete update packages of both the Alpha F3 and F8 for CFS2 at SimV. They work flawlessly.

PomBee:ernae:

I think you guys already figured it out but when Alphasim released the Meteor as freeware they put the FS9 air file in both the FS9 and the CFS2 versions. The FS9 air file is missing some key (for CFS2) fields which is why you are getting that error message.

Perhaps one of our members who purchased the payware version could upload the good CFS2 air file.

Hi Delta Lima,

The Meteors and Vampires are available as complete aircraft (rather than just skins) in the "Aircraft-others" section here at SOH. The Meteors are on page 2 (EAF & IAF versions)......

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=55&sort=N&pp=15&page=2

and the Vampires are on page 6........

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=55&sort=N&pp=15&page=6

Sorry, I couldn't make individual links.

I did the original skins 'cos I liked them, and I was interested in the early Arab-Israeli conflicts. Take53084 was also interested in doing some Middle Eastern stuff, and still is, I believe. He was researching the airfields, and history of the conflicts with a view to perhaps producing campaigns for the aircraft. I did some other IAF and Arabic skins (Spitfires, Mosquitos, Beaufighters, and a B-17 amongst others), but they weren't up to a standard that I would care to upload. I am thinking of re-vamping some of them (no pun intended) for uploading to the Paintshop, but that won't be for a little while. I've uploaded them to box.net, and can supply links for anyone who's interested.

Cheers,

These have the correct AIR files and there are also a number of update packages for the planes, as well as a lot of skins by Bub and Polar Lion....all located in the SimV/CFS2/Aircraft section.

Thanks PB!!! I looked under the Archive files and didn't see any relevant missions or campaigns yet - but the links for the paint and model files worked great. There was some talk a few weeks back about '48 and '56 - that would make for an interesting application for some of these models - and certainly your Spitfires, Mossies, etc.

How, exactly, do you convert from FS2002 or FS2004 to CFS2?

I did a little research and discovered the Russian Il-28 BEAGLE was used in the 1956 conflict. Any Il-28s out there that can be converted?

Hi burcham8,

You need Mk_Mdl_Ver 2.0+.zip which is on this page........

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=49

This program is used to convert the model, then you need to add a suitable .dp file from a CFS2 equivalent aircraft or something similar. You will probably need to modify the .dp using DPed, the link for which is.........

http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file=aired.zip

PM me if you need any help.

Hi Bonesimoto,

There is an IL-28 at the AB Squad site, which I did some Egyptian skins for, and added rear guns to, then I lost them when my external H/D melted down. I'm still a little wary of that site, as I've heard some unsettling things about it from other SOH members, so if you go there, virus check the download.

Cheers,
