P.S:
Yes, the model blows, as does the temporary VC, but I'l nonetheless claim the following achievements...

- First FSX native model of a Do 328
- First (freeware) implementation of landing light splashes - Lotus style
- First user flyable aircraft with the new Skywork livery
- First aircraft not to use .fx files for lights

Well done, Sir!
Now sit back and enjoy the fame for a couple of days. :-)

Now sit back and enjoy the fame for a couple of days. :-)

First the fame, then the hatemail because the model blows and then the "I want updates" criers.

Oh well, all for the fame, lol. :d

(Your rudder spring tab code still works and works and works and works, btw! Thanks again!)

You beat me with these two.

Hey cool, didn't know you were after the .fx less lights as well!

I my be the first one, but you'll surely as heck beat me in terms of quality. ;)

Hehe, we'll see. I don't like fx lights implementation in FSX. They like to disappear behind geometry at some angles, beside, 3d mesh with proper textures and materials looks just as good as fx sprites.

Exactly.

Modeled lights also aren't excessively visible at daylight like the .fx ones, which is a big plus in terms of realism and you can selectively "illuminate" surrounding parts with them.

Not a chance. I'm just getting started with the 328!

Anyways, I forgot the panel for controlling the lights (exterior and more) on my main PC. And since I won't have access to FSX itself for the next 2+ weeks, the replacement I've programmed on a train (hardcore, eh?) is included in the fixed download now, but untested in FSX. It should work 'though.

P.S:
Jeez, this vodka hits really hard. Dad, what did you do to me? :icon_lol:

I wonder if the modeled lights can be used for scenery objects equally well. 3D solutions (red/blue or shutter glasses) don't work with .fx style effects which are rendered in a 2D only manner. Flying at night over lighted areas makes my eyes hurt as a result, so all landings are done with 3D turned off. Positioning of lights on aircraft is also affected in 3D. That means this Do-328 will look much better than many aircraft.

Bjoern, you got the start of a nice plane happening here. It's looking real good.

Someone has already put the paintkit to use:

I wonder if the modeled lights can be used for scenery objects equally well.

The lighting technique, courtesy of Bill Leaming's (Eaglesoft) brilliant mind, was meant for scenery use. I just thought that they were of excellent use for aircraft as well.

Check this thread out, it shows the basics:

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the LotusSim L-39 lights (strobe, nav etc) are all hard coded as part of the model.

Oh if you knew...

Bjoern, congratulations on a very fine modelling job ! :salute:

Thanks, Bob!

I've included a modified aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg from your 328 to spare the end user some tedious .cfg editing. Credit has been retained in the file header and is given in my Wiki as well.

I hope that's okay for you guys at PAD.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the LotusSim L-39 lights (strobe, nav etc) are all hard coded as part of the model.

Hard coded =/= attachpoints on models.

From screenshots I've seen, the L-39 uses .fx files (at least for the landing light "cone") while all my lights are all polygons, textures and XML code.

The installer is a bit "underdeveloped" yet and...;-)

You'll either get this self-extracting .exe or a standard .7z archive as an alternative. Coose wisely. ;)

I finally got around including the original (working) light control panel into the download. Light control fetishes can now (hopefully) be satisfied.

No biggie.

Finally someone who sees the big picture. Readmes, websites and screenshots don't do themselves.

Fortunately at least these airplanes are done by themselves. More or less :greenbo:

These airplanes get done because I do them primarily, absolutely for me.

Maybe I should start uploading them without readmes and screenshots as kind of a virtual natural selection for potential pilots. Mwahahahaha!

How is this project progressing?

Bjoern
June 3rd, 2011, 04:20
Oh sweet, some interest! :jump:

Last work on the model was in April. I need to remodel part of the fuselage and still finish the base textures of the -310s engines.

Then there's painting more liveries.
