The Coast Guard Base at Winter Island, Salem Mass. had two Douglas Dolphins. They were painted all silver with the bars on the tail. They were replaced by Grumman JRFs.
They had a different sounding engine and I don't know it it was the mounting arrangement that made them sound so different. The wings were not painted yellow.
It looks like a nice airplane. Nice companion to have with the Walrus. But then again I love seaplanes.

Thanks for that observation. The USCG version in our package is painted in the livery of the last remaining Dolphin on display at the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola Florida, USCG Douglas RD-2 Adhara. 1932. The package includes a paint kit for those that wish to do other liveries

I just came across this pic on the Wheels A Day site. The Douglas Dolphin and an old ambulance at Cape May, 1939. The link is the the Library of Congress page from which the picture was taken:

OBIO,

I saw that the other day when I was there. I go there everyday: http://www.wheelsaday.com/ and to the sister site: http://www.planeaday.com/ For those that do not know about these sites, you get a nice one-a-day photo, changes everyday, of some good old ones...and some modern aircraft. Just think of it as a "center-fold" for aircraft.

And at PlaneAday they have a video link to YouTube that usually stays "embedded" for about a week.

Today's (12-17-2010) ---->> Hawker Sea Fury...lovely :applause:

http://www.planeaday.com/

...and the video is the F-35's AN/AAQ EO DAS system.
