Today I took my private pilot check ride, and needless to say, I knocked it out of the park!

The examiner said I was the best check ride he's had in 5 years :)

SO EXCITED!

Congratulations!

The only difficulty now is splitting income between real and simulated flight.

Well done mate. As much as I like flight simming, it's in a different league to the real thing.

Thanks guys!

The hardest part honestly was getting clearance from the TSA (I'm Canadian), and waiting for the weather to allow for the checkride (I was scheduled for Nov. 17th, and wasn't able to take it until Dec. 9th)

Thanks again everyone!

Yippe! I second the statement: "license to learn." You'll probably learn more about flying when doing it on your own (making mistakes etc) than an instructor could ever teach you!

I hope you are able to keep flying. Once I got my license my flying trailed off and I'm not current by any means. I miss it a lot - but the cost got me :( Someday perhaps!

I am personally interested to fly ultralights in the US. Does anyone know of a facility/outfit in the eastern USA that is reasonaly priced?

Funny you should mention that.

During my training (all during solo flights), I had a mag go out on final...violent vibration! I had two comm failures, one on the ground, one in the air, and an alternator failure...fun times!

Ada Boy Diego! You must feel awesome. Flightsim is cool, but it just isn't the same as the smells, vibrations, and sounds from real flight. Well you know.:salute: I have had to suspend my flight training due to UNEMPLOYMENT AND COLLEGE TUITION . Will pick back up and finish when I can.
Congrats!

Keep the blue side up, unless that's not the plan!

Funny you should mention that.

During my training (all during solo flights), I had a mag go out on final...violent vibration! I had two comm failures, one on the ground, one in the air, and an alternator failure...fun times!

What is the airspace where you trained? I had a couple radio failures. Because of the crowded airspace here (four controlled airports all bumping into each other) it was a real pain. Thankfully I never had both radios go out though it took some time to get everything switched. The other two (mag & alternator) I do not envy you. I did cut a trip short a few weeks ago when a cylinder head temp reported dangerous levels. That turned out to be a bad sensor thankfully, but it was a quieter ride home.

MenendezDiego
December 11th, 2010, 20:16
It sure was a big dedication. Took me about four months, than about half a month waiting for my checkride (weather kept pushing it back)

As far as the airspace, my field is Class D, with surrounding Class C and a TRSA about 30 NE.

Good thing you caught that head temp. You never know.

Also reminds me of the time we were doing a short field takeoff. Full power, brakes on, "ready to go?", "Yep!" responds my instructor...I check the RPM gauge and go "Nope! Tower, N286HG aborting takeoff"

RPM was reading 2000...should be reading around 25-2600...FUN TIMES!

Anyone else have any scary moments?
