The Ercoupe had the twintails and the aileron and the rudder coupled, and limited elevator travel for always coordinated flight and to make it spin proof.....the sold it as 'incapable of spinning' etc..
Well, it DOES spin, a 'nice' inverted flat spin!

Interestingly enough, when you taxi, you utilize the yoke like a steering wheel as well. ;)

It seems as the designers wanted a truly entry level aircraft that anyone could fly. I think we must remember that during these years, we fully expected everyone in the future to be flying in air cars to work.

Would love an updated Ercoupe.

I had a chance to fly in one to and from Orlando back in96-97. The frame was built in 1945 and had a smooth running Continental C85 engine. Also had a chance to fly it around a bit, lovely airplane:ernae:

looks cool, but I'd still rather have an XP-79. JMO.

Ercoupes for FS9 by John Woodward and Mr. Ito, they work in X w/SP1 don't know about w/SP2 or Acc

Don, I assume you've been around the airplane while it's running, what would you compare the sound to? Also, do you have any closer shots of the panel?

Thanks!:salute:

I think rudder pedals were an option on the original Ercoupe. The company was sold many times over the years. When it became the Aircoupe they all had rudder pedals I believe. Sure would like to see one for FSX.

Well, at least for Ito's Ercoupe, and this is the first time I've run into this with any of his airplanes that have VC's, the VC panel won't show. . .it's solid black. All the other items from that texture are visible, except the panel itself.

Moving on to Woodward's model to see what it looks like.

falcon409
November 19th, 2010, 10:34
Well, not sure why this is happening now, but Woodward's airplane has the same panel problem. Everything on the texture along with the panel shows up fine, but the panel itself is solid black. Aside from that and not surprisingly, Ito's model is far better and more detailed, so it would be the better choice if I could just get the panel to display.

Are u runnig SP2 or acc? that might be the problem, I have both in with just SP1 and no problems. Yes Mr, Ito's is much better looking that John's but John's was orginally a 2002 a/c updated to FS9.Also Mr. Ito's goes way to fast, like most of his A/C.:) When his 1st came out there was a lot of tinkering with airand cfg files for it here at the SOH and John 049 did a bunch of repaints for it too. The late Leon Louis did a bunch of repaints for John's coupe, either one if u run across a repaint of N3191H that was my coupe for a while, it's in both airplanes

Yea, SP2/Accel, but in the past, that has never been a problem with Ito's aircraft and I run quite a few still. Oh well.:salute:

Well, problem solved. . .there is no entry for the VC panel or any gauges. The only entry for the VC is the compass. After reading the readme it makes a bit more sense. He didn't really like this airplane but decided to do it anyway, mostly because of the twin tail design. . .I guess it intrigued him enough to make him want to model it. He basically did it, gave it a 2D panel. . .did a basic VC interior and then just stuck it out there without ever adding anything to the VC. . .kinda strange, but that seems to be what happened. . .so much for the Ercoupe.:salute:

Interesting Reddog. Technically, there's no way you should have a fully gauged VC cockpit if you're using the same panel.cfg that came with the original aircraft because there isn't any VC info as I mentioned. I know you use only SP1 but I won't go back to that just to be able to use a few more airplanes.

Can you post the VC section of your panel.cfg please?:salute:

Falcon, I am running the Ercoupe in FSX SP2+Accel and the VC displays OK. You might try another download. I downloded the files from Simviation a year ago. Have not flown it for a while but I remember it needed a whiskey compass and a few other tweaks. Nice airplane. My father owned a 1946 model in 1958.

What do you show for the VC information in your panel.cfg. . . .if you can post that, I should be able to get it to work.

funny u say u won't dump SP2 or acc for a few more a/c and I won't put in for,to me, just a few a/c that do need it when there are tons of A/C that it screws up. :)

Have not heard this one, yet. He needs to do his final checkride to recieve his Sport Pilot License, but the trainer/instructor (from a different airport, with a different aircraft (still an Ercoupe)) has been putting him off for almost a year!!! He finally found another CFI who will sign him off, using this plane. I think he's going to get it done next week. The plane just completed it's annual, and he flew it (with a licensed pilot along, of course) to a breakfast two days ago. Up till now, the plane has just been sitting in the hanger waiting.

I will get to take a ride (many, I hope) when he gets signed off.

I took a couple other shots of the plane nearly a year ago, but lost them in a partial hdd loss when we had a power spike while defragging the hdd. Lost ALL pics that had been taken/saved for two months on the drive, out of a couple years worth. Will be taking more this coming spring, I hope.

this does have a Continental 4cyl in it, 95HP, I think.

I've been lucky enough to fly a number of Ercoupes, Aircoupes and an Alon. The engines ranged from 65 HP to 90 Hp. Most have 85 HP. All Continentals. As I remember the sound was just like the 85 and 90 HP Cessna 140's, unless you were flying with one or both windows slid down.

None to very little sound proofing back then. So the 65 HP J-3 is close.

Mooney made a few with a single Mooney type reversed fin. Looked pretty neat. They only made a few.
