Nice, got a book called Team Tornado in my libary that I have read many a time.

I think back in FS9 I had the Iris version and some scenery called Leakenheath??? that I used to love doing touch and gos on, also visited Richmond and Williamtown more than once or twice.

Will be watching this

Dave,

I have long wanted a Tornado within FSX as well and your model looks fantastic too, freeware to boot. Why haven't you considered switching to payware, at least on the level of the Simskunkworks F-104, another great model I would add. I understand ultimately, it's a labor of love, but the depth of quality you and your team, as well as people such as Piglet and Pam put into freeware releases, the majority of us wouldn't mind giving back to you and others like yourself. There will always be some that balk at the idea, but come on, $10-15 for your releases is a pittance compared to some releases such as those produced by PMDG, Ariane and A2A. Granted those same companies have much depth and detail to their models that garner a higher price. In the end though, it's great to populate one's hangars with high detail/fidelity and lower detail/fidelity too. It just seems that if you are able to at least reap a benefit of putting some monies back into your pocket for devoting your time to our great hobby, it makes it more enticing next time to start on the next project and should it be taken to the next level of detail and fidelity, than it's not so constraining working with little to no return on your time invested. Just a thought.

BTW, love the C-17 from your site and have been considering the Nimrod as well.

Matt

I refuse to go to payware, as that brings a whole load of issues. if people pay for a product, they have a right to complain. if it is free, they can just throw it in the bin if I do not want to fix the issue raised.

This however will be a donationware. I am going to ask everyone who downloads, to dontate £1 to Help for Heroes. :salute:

Stated like a true professional and a gentleman with a righteous cause. I think that's one of the best replies given from a freeware producer yet. I just don't want to see the well dry up at some point because of no return on investment.

It looks better and better, congratulations !! :jump:
The only things I don't like are the canopy and the engine intakes.
The canopy looks like there's not reflection at all, FS98 style. But you said already it looked better ingame than in the screenshots, so I will wait until I see the final version.
The engine intakes are too clear. They need a bit of shadowing, like ambiant occlusion.

UKMIL
December 2nd, 2010, 01:03
I have since altered the intake colour, so that will make a difference. As for the glass, I am playing with the settings to see if i can get more shine on it.

December 2nd, 2010, 05:35
Hi,

Looking at this project with great interest. My last fling with an FS Tonka was the one of Lago's so it has been a while.
Are you able to bake in some shading on the textures? It always enhances the overall 3D feel and realism. A layer as such would be great for a repaint kit as well.

Thanks

UKMIL
December 2nd, 2010, 05:51
all the textures are currently layered PSD's so a paintkit will be available for people to add extra dirt

Dag
December 2nd, 2010, 06:06
I wasn't talking about dirt, I was talking about "baked in shading" rendered in the 3D program, but never mind.

Thanks

Wow! Sorta dismayed at the lacking for support of this project via donations. Seems but a pittance to ask, for such a quality product. Perhaps more will come once the project's released. Great screenshots and thanks for what you're doing, both in the donationware/freeware department and yourHelp for Heroes Project. we had to stop spammers and hackers, who use FREE web addresses to get access to our site. You cannot complain for us trying to protect ourselves. We were hacked 3 times in 3 months before I banned free emails

As said above, I have registered successfully with my ISP e-mail but, in addition, I need to become a Club Member to get access to the repaint kit. I'll see what I will do. I've never paid £9.99 to be able to access a repaint kit for a freeware aircraft before.

Thanks for the help

Admittedly performance is a bit poor on my machine so I think I'll resize a lot of the textures (primarily the odds and sods in the shared folder) and there are a few little glitches (double wingtip contrails at times, no engine sound when not using burner and panned to the rear of the aircraft) but these are all simple tweaks to fix and it's certainly a keeper.

Lovely to see a native GR4 in FSX.

Admittedly performance is a bit poor on my machine...

I love the Ukmil Tornado, but on my laptop FPS are quite bad... I suspect a VC issue... So, since this is quite trendy these days, I swapped Dino's Grumman F14D VC into the Tornado and voilà, I have a beautiful Tornadino to fly around with no more FPS dips!

49746 49752 49747

The HSI/GPS comes from the FS9 Iris Tornado and the PFD is from the default EH101... It adds a little bit of colours...

Here is how to do this painlessly (you should have Dino's F14D already installed). Hope it's ok with you Ukmil if I post this... for us guys with cheap or old computers...

Update to the model.cfg files like this...

[models]
normal=gr1
interior=..\..\Grumman_F14D\model\f14d2

Add the "F14" line to each texture.cfg files, for the VC textures... No need to copy / move any files!

[fltsim]
fallback.1=..\..\UKMIL Tornado Shared\Texture.common
fallback.2=..\..\Grumman_F14D\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\Texture
fallback.4=..\..\..\..\Texture

Copy the F14G panel.cfg file to the Tornado panel folder (backup the previous one). Add this to the [vcockpit01] section:

gauge01=F3!Effect Controller1, 0,0,1,1
gauge02=F3!SonicSound, 0,0,1,1

Dont' forget to adjust the viewpoint like this in the aircraft.cfg file: eyepoint = 15, 0.0, 4.72

These are the main tricks... Now you can play with the MFD gauges, sounds, effects and such... or keep it simple.... and have fun!

So I did the F-14D v2.4 VC portover as a trial - and got everything work ... but now the wings stay fully forward and with no flap control.

Has anyone figured out how to make the wing sweep work properly if using Dino's VC?

It's a great model, and though the (UKMIL) VC is heavy on frames, subbing in Dino's works quite nicely.

cheers,

Just a wee bump to see if vonstroheim or anyone else knew if it was possible to have the wing sweep and flaps functioning following the Dino F-14D VC merge.

I'm wondering if the coding of the newest model is incompatible with the model? It's odd, since Von seems to have gotten it to work a few years ago - that's all I can think of ...

thanks so very much in advance,

Yes it's possible. Simply remove a line from the [Vcockpit01] section (with backslash):

//gauge02=rcb-gauges!F14FlapsControl, 0, 0

Sorry, no. That wouldn't be fair to John Young and Dino Cattaneo, not to mention copyright issues. But you have the merge receipe right here in this thread, and it's great fun to build by yourself a ride with parts from various donor aircrafts. A complete package would spoil the fun...

the weapons payload the same way with the Tacpacked planes.

May I ask : How did you manage the RIO cockpit to show up ?

Thank you.

delta_lima
September 13th, 2015, 20:26
Hello Von,

So the flaps/wing sweep is sorted. Many thanks for that.

I've added your vcockpit entries, and still my AB is on full - with the right on with full length flame - irrespective of throttle position. After much toggling, I've tracked it to the recognition light - so when that's off, they're off altogether, whether throttle is on full AB or not.

So then I looked at your vcockpit entries, and noted there's a call from a cab called "F3" - and that's when I wondered if that's the problem - there is no such cab in the original panel folder, or of course the Dino F14 panel - so wondering if there's an issue with how the AB gets invoked?

Wondering if/how you go them to come on only when they should ....

thanks,

dl

vonstroheim

...my AB is on full ... irrespective of throttle position...

The afterburner effect is controlled by the "F3!Effect Controller1" gauge, from the "F3.CAB" file. This CAB file is in the "UKMIL Tornado F3 [ADV]" package here (http://www.ukmil.org.uk/download.php?list.113) or ukmf3.zip @ FlighSim.com.

The related afterburner effects are in the "UKMIL Tornado SHARED FILES pack V2" package (but you already have those installed): here (http://www.ukmil.org.uk/download.php?list.113) or ukmtonkash.zip @ FlightSim.com

xpelekis
September 15th, 2015, 02:54
@ Delta Lima : My Panel.cfg (of VC1 in altered F-14D ) Try this line (blue - works for me) :

gauge00=F14D_HUD!HUD_F14D, 182,80,500,500 // F-14D HUD
gauge01=Sound/dsd_fsx_xml_sound!Sound,0,0,0,0,./SimObjects/Airplanes/UKMIL Tornado Shared/Panel/Sound/Sound.ini
gauge02=ukmil_tornado!Effect Controller, 461,425,20,20
//gauge02=F3!Effect Controller1, 0,0,1,1
gauge03=F3!SonicSound, 0,0,1,1
//gauge04=rcb-gauges!F14FlapsControl, 0, 0
gauge04=Tactical!F14DTactical, 0,0
gauge05=Tactical!SMS, 0, 0
gauge06=dsd_fsx_fuel_dump!fuel_dump, 1024,1024,0,0

@ Everyone interested : "Tornadino" can use Tacpack configuration also from F-14.

1. It just needs in Tornado's "Panel" folder, folders :
F14D, F14D_HUD, F14D_MFD, rcb-gauges, Tactical, dsd_fsx_fuel_dump and

2. In main plane folder :
the tacpack .ini, .sig, -user.ini, tp-public key

All F-14D Weapons seem to work apart of the gun.

I suspect this needs the RIO pit. That's why I needed it. Also for the A/A & AA/G Radars of course.....

Yes you have the RIO back seat, but you need to add in the aircraft.cfg file a "camera definition" to see it. Sorry can't send you mine right now...

xpelekis
September 15th, 2015, 10:03
Thank you very much for the "logic" info.

For RIO VC camera, you may add to the "Aircraft.cfg" of moded plane (ie, the modded F-14D .cfg),
the following lines at cameras section. Works for me just fine. You may set "InitialZoom = 0.7" to less (eg, 0.3)
for a wider cockpit FOV.

[CameraDefinition.8]
Title = "RIO Virtual Cockpit"
Guid = {B71E7CA4-B197-42d7-8D1A-9EDEE0851641}
Origin = Virtual Cockpit
MomentumEffect = No
SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
SnapPbhReturn = False
PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
PanPbhReturn = False
Track = None
ShowAxis = YES
AllowZoom = TRUE
InitialZoom = 0.7
SmoothZoomTime = 2.0
ZoomPanScalar = 1.0
ShowWeather = Yes
XyzAdjust = TRUE
ShowLensFlare=FALSE
Category = Cockpit
PitchPanRate=20
HeadingPanRate=60
InitialXyz=0.00, 0.20, -1.59
InitialPbh=0, 0, 0

Thank's again. I really like this plane like that...:untroubled:

Thanks Von - got the reheat going the way it should.

Thanks too, X - I guess that would have worked also.

For some reason (and admittedly a bit OT), the GR1 doesn't covert as "neatly" - a bit of a funny black hourglass shaped black form appears between the windscreen and the radome. I've tried deleting various potentially offending texture files, but nothing works, or they're integral to the Dino F-14 pit. It's a pity, since the paints I really like are on the GR 1 (Winter, Granby, and some of the older 80s green camo). But when they get dragged onto the GR 4 model, that same funny effect appears. Ah well, I've got the 12 Sqn and Telic, that'll do for now.

Much appreciate the help everyone's rendered on this - and of course to Gaffer, for a great model.

Hi everybody,

absolutely excited about this fantastic bird! Following this thread, I think no payware Tonka is needed anymore. But just found out there is one thing missing to get me satisfied at all: A manual how to change the payload configuration. I heard about an online manual, but unfortunately the link seems to be broken or corrupted. So does anybody can help with the payload here, please? It would be great to be able to use all amazing features of this great aircraft.
