I agree Panther, very interesting stuff! A must website to add to "My Favorites" (already done!)

I loved reading about the D400 and D4! A lot of promising stuff by Nikon!

This Thom has one heck of a nice Nikon specifics area!

Hey All,

Interesting stuff but seems he does read Michael Reichmann's site...

The big boys (Canon, Nikon) still haven't gone mirrorless. That's unexpected given the clear sales trend happening in the high compact to low DSLR realm. They can't continue to ignore mirrorless for long, though. Surprisingly, I'm not sure they fully "get it." (More on that in a bit.)

He gets it.

That said the discussion about the D400 is interesting. The possible need to buy a new set of lenses because of sensor performance - meaning the sensor out-resolves the lens versus the other way around. This has been one of my fundamental questions - how do you as a consumer know which out-resolves which so that you can stay ahead of the game with future body/sensor improvements with only one investment in a set of lenses?

I think what he said about Panasonic is reasonable - some fast lenses - wide angle primes and zooms. A GF3 type camera - probably.

A mirrorless Pentax - I like that if it has a small pro weather-sealed body with the K5 sensor.

Sony - more NEX lenses and a crapshoot as to what they do after that. How do you argue with that?

I take it he's a Nikonian judging by the amount of words he gives to each brand?

Since ordering a D7000, I have been visiting Nikon Cafe and Nikonians on a regular basis to read up on what others are saying about the new camera. One of the things they are saying is that the 16 MP sensor can make some photos soft. This is especially true with the DX lenses. It seems you have to sharpen the shot, either in camera or later in post processing.

The opinion of these "experts", is that we have reached a point where the manufacturers are cramming too many pixels on the sensors. In other word the law of diminishing returns has kicked in. Maybe that is where the new lens idea is coming from?

Remember what I said in the other thread...
Nikon & Canon waited for everyone else to play their mirrorless cards first.......

This guy seems a bit of a Noink. Though admittedly, N!kon has been doing more (and better) than Canon as of late. :173go1:

The 7D and T2i (note: 60D not included) are great cameras, keep marketing them. The 5D3 needs to come soon. The 1Ds4 needs to come soon. The 24-70 L II and 100-400 L II absolutely NEED to come out before more professionals move to N!kon. There's also a couple minor things that should come out too- a new 50mm 1.4 (L?), and a 30 or 35mm EF-S prime like Nikon already has. Primes are still popular (and necessary). Sigma is doing very well with their 30 and 50 and will likely strike rich with their new 85 1.4.

There's my Canon to-do list for 2011. Whether any of it happens or not, we'll see. For Canon's sake, I sure hope so.
