View Full Version : Anybody able to help me set my Iris S-3 launch assist?

Please? :) I've been messing with values and I can't figure it out! I know you should be able to figure it out from the contact point for the nose wheel, but I have no clue where to go from this point.

These are the contact points... no idea really what I'm looking at, so it's hard for me to decipher and come up with a correct (or even working) value for the launch assist. No clue which one of those is the nose gear, although I've been hoping and assuming it was point 0.

Yes, point 0 is the nose gear. The first number -21.00 is the longitudinal position. Second number is the lateral position and third is the vertical. All measured from the reference datum point. Your figures show the launch bar pivot and lug way in front of the nose wheel.

With regards to the Iris (formerly DSB S-3) do you have a fix for the gauges on the panel? So many of them are not recognized/usable with FSX. Was wondering if a workaround panel was ever made.

Sorry NC, I was wondering the same thing... I've got no gauges either.

Russel, thanks a lot, that finally worked. I had tried a bunch of numbers and thought I had already done that, but I guess not.

Next issue... now that I can get a cat shot, the plane is going nose up and wheelieing down the cat track. LAME. I tried launching with no flaps, even tried dialing in a bunch of negative elevator trim prior to launch... can this lunacy be fixed, or am I out of luck? :(

Try this as a starter copy paste the launch assist bit into your aircraft.cfg and copy paste the light section in to replace the existing lights, the lights are nothing to do with the launch but it lets you see where the launch assist points are, you can delete the lights 2, 3 and 4 when you are happy.

The reference points for this aircraft is way ahead of the visual model,= the green light ahead of the plane, try this and see how you get on, I have'nt tried it yet

Quick test shows it does not do a wheely but the nose gear needs some adjustment to stop it going through the deck

Try this for your nosewheel contact points

The tailhook was just under the cockpit now moved back into the visual hook.

Merida, gorgeous work! Can't wait to get my hands on those. Straying a little here, but have you ever looked at the Team FS KBT Superhornet? I've been wondering why the majority of paints for it are such low quality, semi-pixelated examples. I mean, they all look like they were done in MS Paint. Is it the paint kit? Maybe the aircraft just can't accept a photo real hi res paint job? It would be awesome if you could disspell that myth, because I love that Superhornet... just can't find any really nice paints for it.

Rich, thank you! And the tailhook fix explains why the only time I wouldn't bolter was when I would shoot for a 1 wire. LOL. Thanks, you've really fixed everything here. And no wheelies!

airattackimages, glad you are happy, it was the contact points fore and aft settings that caught my interest as they indicate the reference point to be way ahead of the visual model and if you used the light settings I posted you could see the green light well in front of the model.

The cat assist settings you applied first would have been about 5 feet forward of the reference point making it exceedingly difficult if not impossible to hook up never mind launch.

Nice model unfortunately it does not fit in with my carrier set up so will have to go.
