I went into Wal-Mart yesterday to return a defective copy of FSX and found out I could not get a replacement. I was given a "Gift Certificate" They were told to send them all back to Microsoft.
What gives here?

By the way, has anyone have a spare copy they would like to sell?

E-Bay still has FSX.

Walmart's PC game section is moving more and more to online. Expect the way video games are bought to basically follow the same fate as Blockbuster - every year more are getting their video games by way of instant, downloadable content rather than a trip to the store and buying a physical boxed game. In the long run, I think this is very good for developers.

You can see it here at Walmart:

Wow Scott, i did not know that. Thank you for that insight!

@Helldiver, did you have a copy of FSX Standard or Deluxe?

Also, FSX can be bought directly from Microsoft as digital download. So don't expect that the supply will end soon :)

Good grief, they actually pay YOU to take Deluxe + Acceleration as opposed to just deluxe. The Gold Edition is 10 buck cheaper than deluxe. At $29.95, that's a stone cold deal.

Helldiver
October 23rd, 2010, 09:34
It was the standard version. I bought the Acceleration as a separate program.
I kind of wished I had bought it as one program.

I don't sorry, but you can find the Gold edition on amazon for 30 bucks:

Some of the Walmarts around here don't have anything in the way of software anymore.

Its going away from being a physical product since so many people have access to high speed internet.

As stated earlier in the thread the FSX Gold addition is far cheaper than the buying it piece meal.

I remember when I bought fsx back In 2007, it cost me £50 from HMV and when I upgraded to acceleration that cost me £27 from Game I wish I hadn't payed that much because it's just so much cheaper now!

Every time I went in Walmart, I always headed first to the back Electronics department to see what new Game titles were out, check prices, etc.. EVERYTIME!!!!

Several months ago, Wallyworld executives decided to make the isle into one single section. Now its just Warcraft, the Sims, the $9.99 titles in the small CD cases, and a couple of others. No more rich selections of games.

Sometimes I catch myself heading to Electronics, and remember 'its not there bill!!! its no longer there....'

Of all the stores to take out such games and titles, you would think it would be someone else.

At least Best Buy (sorry Moe) has some good titles still.

Will the future be just 'buying from the website directly'? Will we buy everything in downloads instead of in boxes?

Reminds me. Can we buy FSX and FS9 online? MS should consider there. They might find they can make a ton of money with purchasing downloads online....

Don't you have a Fry's Electronics down there, Bill? I could have sworn they had some AZ locations. Around here, they've got the biggest game section by far, including a lot of boxed titles for FS9/FSX.

Yep, we do. I think 3 locations, one about 7 miles from here. Amazing super stores.

I go to Wallyworld like every few days though. When I go into Fry's, my wallet gets attacked, losing weight and power. I get soooooooooooo tempted there... aarrgh..

I do a LOT of my shopping on Amazon. Great site. And they back up what they market too. If you buy from them, and there's any problem, they refund your money; leastwise, that has been my experience. NC

I've only been to one Fry's store (which was in Indianapolis). It appeared to me that their prices were much higher, but maybe that's not the case with software?

Hi Bob / Helldiver:

Here's a few local leads for you, in lieu of a large downloaded online purchase (...that you'd still have to burn onto DVD's for installation and safekeeping... and assuming your ISP doesn't throttle your connection throughput and/or charge you an "excess band width utilization fee" for the BIG filesize(s) of that and other software titles) ! :engel016:

The Chicago area stores for these vendors normally carry Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition [PC Game]

(aka "FSX Gold"), so it's probable that those in your area might have it as well (you might want to call them in advance to confirm stock on hand before driving) :iidea::

FYI: The FSX Gold DVD case packaging label looks like this:

If I can avoid it, I avoid Walmart. Not because of any particular reason to which most people generally dislike it, but because when I go there I lose faith in human beings as being the most advanced species on the planet.

AHHH Walmart...ya love or ya hate it.....watching the simple folk!!...the real de- sanitized look of some area's I do note however ,its often geography, location, towns which you see different flavors!....In less affluent area,s you find some of this,in more affluent its not as vivid!.....Like some sporting events...Try "Micky "D"s Ya can fill a book of human looks and behaviour......We are assailed with news people are starving???...I do not see starving people here!!Ironically it is Walmart that employs these very people....those who formerly worked on some assembly line , cleaned your motel room, washed the dishes, and shoveled the crap! Jobs now gone!

All those old Geezer Greeters!,picking up a few bucks so they do not have to eat dog food,or are able to get a bottle of booze..For Social security does not cut it no more!!.most would swap for the coper years of life...For the Golden years is a myth for many!....

I go to Walmart...its the prices stupid!!....Those living on tight budgets do so also!...In these times a penny saved is a penny earned.......Those pictures??? They look like any currant moronic situation comedy on the tube!!...Its life man,and all are part of it!..Look in the Mirror??? Naked!! see it???...http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon26.gif

Problem solved! A very generous forum member went out his way, bought a copy of FSX Gold, packaged it up and shipped it to me with no charge. The thoughtfulness of some people is wonderful and totally unexpected, for which I give thanks.

It's the truth Helldiver, things like this just uplift my faith in the fact that there are still righteous and thoughtful people left among the human race. My Friday is made, enjoy the sim when it comes HD. Install the FSX DVDs first, then Acceleration, then your add-ons. Acceleration makes a world of difference in the performance of FSX.
