3D Gaming???

Who's got 3D, my computer is telling me I'm fully 3D capable have everthing needed, and that FSX is one of the best (Games) I Hate calling our sim a Game but who honestly has tried this? Obviously I havent seen or heard anything about this but while exploring my pc I noticed I'm fully 3D ready so please expert chaps ( Ted, Mason) My Brothers/Fathers of computing lol what do you think or know about this, should I buy those silly glasses or what?

Stereoscopic Gaming

Another one of those great things is the GeForce 3D Vision. This program – that runs on Windows and NVIDIA GPUs – will allow you to play your games in 3D.

Not just the common 3D that we encounter in all games nowadays, mind. Do you remember those goofy 3D goggles with one eye blue/green and one eye red? Yeah, that 3D.
What Anaglyphs Are

For those of you who have never heard before of the concept of anaglyphs or stereoscopical vision, I’ll briefly explain it. If your interest is peaked, you can always Google for more information on this subject.

Anaglyphs are 3D situations (defined by height, width and depth) that are put into a 2D picture (defined by height and width). They are made by merging two slightly different points of view into one image, using two superimposed color layers.
Without, they only give you headaches, but if you view these anaglyphs through anaglyph filters (a.k.a. “goofy goggles”), each eye will see only one of those layers. The brain then decodes these two separate images – like it’s doing all day long – into the 3D vision that we all know.
How To Set Up Anaglyphic Gaming

There are also various ATI GPUs that support stereographic gaming by default. You can search for these on Google.
The supported operating systems are Windows XP (limited to 32bit) and Windows Vista (supported by both the 32bit and the 64bit version).
1. Update Your Current Drivers

Make sure to install the latest GeForce drivers before proceeding.

2. Install GeForce 3D Vision and Apply Registry Patch

Next, we need to apply a registry patch. You can download it here (http://powerslife.net/wp-content/uploads/3dStereo.reg) (alternative link (http://rapidshare.com/files/196899349/3dStereo.reg)). This patch activates the output of anaglyph images.
To apply a registry patch, you just need to open the file.
3. (optional) Change The Anaglyph Filter Type

To change the anaglyph filter type, we need to apply another registry patch.

To return to the default Red-Cyan filter setup, you need to download and run this registry patch (http://gamerslastwill.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/remove_3dStereo.reg) (alternative link (http://rapidshare.com/files/196907774/remove_3dStereo.reg)) and reinstall NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision.
4. Activate Stereoscopic Vision

Last but not least, we need to activate the stereoscopic vision. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, and activate it in the Stereo tab.

That’s it! You’re all set up now, and ready to begin your 3D gaming session!
The Ideal Environment

It’s best to do this is a dark room, sitting right in front of your screen. If the images don’t look right, it’s probably because you’re using too light a room, looking at your screen from too big an angle, or are using the wrong color filters.


The glasses will also let you do all the setup from the software that comes with them!

If I were you I would use TRACK IR5 to get a great 3D type experience with FSX.

Sounds great, and I'd love to try it, but...

Here is how I installed steroscopic for the Zalman 3D monitor. I am using a nvidia card, win7 32 bit. It will propably work in XP.
1. I am using Getfore 8800 GTS 12
2. Install this extra driver from the nvidia driver download page "185.85"
3. Goto Nvidia controll panel
4. install the sterocopic 3D
5. Turn it on when fly fs-X
6. turn it off, if you are flying any flight sim that does not support steroscopic 3D. I did not turn it off
when I loaded cfs3, the system showed up in steroscopic, but was not flyable.

My 3D system is the Nvidia shutter glasses. Personally I hate to fly without the 3D now. The following notes may be of some use.

1. Not all planes look great in 3D. Since the 3D is only into the monitor (limitation of FSX), this is only great for certain cockpits. Obviously 2D gauges don't improve.
2. Night flying is nearly impossible with my setup. Lights and other "effects" are 2D only (limitation of FSX). This makes my eyes hurt as they try to separate the 3D effect from the 2D (misplaced) lights.
3. Significant video card hardware is necessary. With a GTS8800 it was okay with the GTX275 it is much better.

Poor quailty short vid in 3D best viewed in smaller screen size.

Can't get it to record properly with fraps, records duel screen. I used guncam which is not giveing me HD capture.

Could you give some examples (a list maybe?) of good/not-so-good aircraft cockpits you have tried?? This would be a massive help.

Does your FPS or smoothness suffer??

I spend a lot of time flying helicopters and I'm hoping 3D will improve situational awareness.
