Seems these guys got off on the wrong foot and now a U.S. Veteran is paying the price, of being Arrested, for his part in this ...

According to the U.S. Code (http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html) certain treatment should be taken at certain junctures ... Being retired military, I'm sure the Veteran knew the Code and was trying to get his associate to abid by the code.

Looks like it didn't turn out so well for the vet ....

OKAY, THIS BITES!!!!!
It Sucks That it Happened at all..

I am troubled the the state would pick up the charges, and that the flag owner would not allow the flag to be replaced..As offered..
It is a poor day when our own People don't resect what OUR Flag stands for,and treat it with
even a small amount of respect to start with..
Yes the vet did break the Law, But there was NO crimmal intent..

Only the desire to respect OUR Flag..
Not pleased to hear the state would have picked up the charges..
I gress understanding for OUR Flag and what it represents, doesn't matter to the state either..
A true Bummer for all..

I did the same thing years ago. I am sure it was more that the real estate guy was to lazy to buy and display a new flag than it had to do with anything else.

The state didn't press charges on their own. According to the article the deputies asked the business owner if he would try to resolve the issue with Mr. Baldner and he insisted on pressing petty theft charges. Can't say I blame him, I would too if somebody wrote a note and called me a "disgrace to the nation". There's some poor behavior on both sides here. Hopefully the judge will dismiss the charge on condition that Mr. Baldner replaces the flag. I appreciate his military service and respect for the flag but you can't just walk off with other people's property.

If he set out to replace the flag, why didn't he just bring the replacement flag with him?

It sounds like the problem is two-fold - flag not replaced, flagpole knocked down. Likely not done by the same person... Also, probably not a great idea to call someone a disgrace in a note telling him that you stole his property.

My thoughts were, "Is this real estate dude stupid or what?" He just POed half of his potential customer base.

Note to self: Don't use this Real Estate Agency if you move to Orlando.
