Hi all,

I'm hoping to release my first scenery quite soon - Axalp Ebenfluh for FSX. Axalp [as many of you will already know] is a unique air show in that it is held 2,200m above sea level in the Swiss mountains above Meiringen Air Base. The 2010 Axalp 'show' includes live cannon firing from Swiss F18 and F5 types, which makes the already stunning location even more exciting.

The scenery is built from scratch using Gmax, and includes all targets, tower building, and most importantly the Rugenbrau beer tent! The scenery will require FS Global [simply because default FSX terrain didn't represent the area well enough]. I've tried my best to simulate the actual location through studying loads of pictures and video of the area. I hope I've done it justice!

The 'real world' Axalp is taking place today and tomorrow - the 13th & 14th October. Here's some info. http://www.sentiero.ch/en72_axalp_swiss-air-force.htm

Any comments would be appreciated.

That´s cool. I´ll take the VRS Superbug there, if your scenery is compatible with Switzerland Pro X.

Will this work with Swiss Pro X by mailsoft?

D.G.'s Hunter plus a swiss airbase scenery plus Axalp plus a cannon effect might do for a bit of fun.

Hi, I don't have Swiss Pro X, so I can't say whether it'd be compatible...

SPX includes a high-detail mesh. Your scenery won´t probably be compatible with it´s mesh. Perhaps you could create a custom mesh for the little area you´ve worked on. :icon_eek: An another (kind) developer could chime on this, if possible. I don´t know anything about developing.

Now this is interesting news :jump: I'm just back from a week at Switzerland where I spend one day at Axalp. Always wished a good scenery would be done for FSX. I have the fs9 scenery for it but that didn't work in FSX. Here two photos from Axalp last week.

Hi wiltzei. I'm sure you're correct in saying it won't be compatible with the Swiss Pro. mesh. I'm afraid I haven't dabbled with creating custom mesh, although I'm willing to give it a try! As it stands, I'll be releasing the scenery built for use with FS Global 2008.

Have you tried the freeware LOD11 mesh from c30s that covers all of the Alps ?

It might give a better representation for the place, without relying on a payware that not everybody owns...

Very interesting alternative Daube - thank you :salute:, although I do prefer the idea of a local custom mesh [although a bit daunting for me]!

I haven't seen the freeware mesh, so I'll be taking a good look.

Certainly looks the part, especially with a backdrop provided by Swiss Pro.

I tested the freeware mesh with the Axalp Scenery and I'm surprised at how well the two blend together! It's far from perfect, but at least the targets and tower building align ok. I've no plans to make another version of the scenery to blend exactly with the freeware mesh as time is tight right now.

I'm almost there with completing Axalp. I've included navaids for two of the four targets [not that you'll need them], tower view that puts you 'behind the glass' for a nice view of the display and a helipad start location close to the Axalp Tower.

Yep, that's where I got it from. It's still beta and that's was available for a short time. I also have no idea when it will be ready. But there's a lot of nice fs9 scenery for Switzerland there.

Dave, do you also plan take make the scenery without the people and Rugenbrau tent? It's not Axalp airshow all year aroud after all :icon_lol:

Thanks Dave, this is a great piece of scenery. I just tried it out with Switzerland X pro and it works perfectly. Fits right in. Now I know how it looks from the pilot's point of view.
One small issue: the Allouette III shows a RNLAF livery, however when I checked the texture for it in the scenery folder I saw it was in the Swiss colors. How can that be?

I should probably post this, as this isn´t related to this scenery, but the solution my mesh problem lies somewhere between randomly deleting files and total simulator re-installation. http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshots/images/808blink.gif (http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshots/view.php?filename=808blink.gif)

Hi VinFlyer, thanks :salute: I'd no idea it would work with any other mesh than FS Global! Shows how similar Global is to Swiss Pro.

I think I know what's causing the RNLAF 'visitor' at Axalp... The original Allouette III model is freeware, and comes with default RNLAF textures. I simply changed the textures to Swiss SAR and placed the copters at Axalp.

For the copters to show in RNLAF livery at Axalp, you must already have scenery previously installed on your Sim that has the default Allouette model and textures active, so that the Axalp copters pick up their default RNLAF livery rather than Swiss SAR. Sorry you're not getting the proper colors showing up, but it's due to me being too lazy, having good freeware static aircraft available and not being skilled enough to make my own aircraft models!

If it helps, you can take out the Allouette static at Axalp by removing the file 'Axalp Allouette.BGL' from the Axalp FSX/Scenery folder. Alternatively, you could search for the original Allouette texture file 'Alouette 3 Netherlands Camouflage.bmp' and / or 'Alouette 3.bgl' [the original model compiled to a bgl scenery file] in your FSX directory, see where else they're used, then temporarily de-activate the other scenery and check that the Swiss SAR livery shows at Axalp.

Obviously, this hopefully won't be a common occurance, because very few of us will have the freeware Allouette III in FSX scenery already. Hope I explained the cause of your problem and that you find a solution.

Thanks Dave, it's not a real big problem. I think the NL-2000 scenery uses that same Alloutte, that's where that texture might come from. I'll see what I can do, probably remove that Alloutte as the Swiss Air Force is phasing out the All III by the end of this year anyway.
