Looks like I'm on my way to El Paso, TX this Thursday. Heading down I-81 to 40, to 30 and on out I-20. Won't be in my GTO tho..... an 18-wheeler to pickup some vintage aircraft parts and bring them back to Delaware. Actually it'll be parts for a couple of Russian TU-2s from WWII. You could say this is my little vacation to see some of America that I haven't seen in a long long time.

This is the type..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-2
But then again, most of you already know what it is. ;)

After an unanticipated delay we're finally heading out for El Paso tomorrow morning. See you all in a week or so. :salute:

Gary,

You wouldn't by chance be headed to the War Eagles Museum just north of El Paso are you? I was there many years ago on a family trip and I distinctly remember they had one of those sitting outside on the ramp. Neat little museum.
You'll have to let me know if that was the place when you get back!

Witt, it's some ranch out there where we're picking up some of the parts. Will let you know who and where when I get back.

Dave, one is going back home to Russia to a museum. That will help pay for the one we're keeping. And the one we're keeping will be restored and made flyable again. Hopefully I'll get to work on it some and get to crew it to any airshows it goes to. :d

Why is it life gets sweeter when you get old(er)?

Witt, did you find out where Champaign Lady disappeared to?

Witt, yep it's War Eagles Air Museum in New Mexico, and it's the TU-2s you thought they were.. in pieces. LOL Great people!. :d

I'm still here loading airplane parts. Got here Saturday night. Went out in the desert to a ranch, 40 miles off the blacktop highway 60 miles east of El Paso, Sunday to pick up parts. 2 hour drive in on a cow path, and 3 hour drive back out partly loaded. Spent Monday loading at WEAM. Only got part of the rest on, and spent Tuesday loading more. The rest will be loaded Wednesday morning and hopefully I'll be on my way back east in the afternoon. And hopefully I'll be back home Sunday... or Monday...... or. LOL Rioght now I'm at the Holiday Inn Express El Paso using their computer in the lobby.

I'm bring back 2 of the buggers in pieces to be rebuilt and flyable once again. These guys have 10 more of them that are all in pices. The one on the ramp in front of the museum is static display only. Pictures and more when I get back home.

Have a good un everyone.... be back on soon. :ernae:

:wiggle: I'm back home. That was some trip out and back. Give me a couple of days to get photos up in an alblum on Photobucket, and I'll post a link. I gotta get some rest, it still feels like I'm still behind the wheel of that 18 wheeler. LOL

Meanwhile take a gander at what's at the War Eagles Air Museum...... http://www.war-eagles-air-museum.com/exhibits.php

And yes, I even became a member...... couldn't pass it up at 15.00/year.

Gary,

Champaign Lady is safely in her new home, about 500 yards to the North in the new museum hangar!
