I saw on TCM today that the late Tony Curtis (aside from Operation Petticoat) really was in the submarine service during World War Two. Is this true?

Read about this the other day. He was in the Navy in WWII, volunteered for subs and served in support of them during the war, but never was a crew member of one. Years later after he became famous, he was given a set of dolphins by the Navy and made an honorary submariner.

Just double checked. He was on the USS Proteus, a submarine tender (repair ship) during WWII.

Chose submarine duty, was assigned aboard the USS Proteus, a sub tender.
Also on board was actor/comedian Larry Storch.

He was also an Officer on the "Sea Tiger". Does that count? This could explain Why he and others wore the Uniform so well.:salute:
