Just goes to show, money and good taste don't necessarily go hand in hand.

Drive two miles away and it doesn't look so gorgeous. Dubai is a huge, dusty, very poor city, in an otherwise third-world country. That place in the photo is for the tourists.

Well, that was 1991 anyway. Maybe it's changed since then...

That's quite the aquarium - 65,000 fish! And not too many Grandma's getting on that 100 ft waterslide, I bet.:d

That is amazing. Not sure if I would want to sleep in a room dwarfed by a giant saltwater aquarium but at $22000.00 per night, I don't have to ever worry about it.

Yea. I've been over/to the UAE on a number of occasions and never saw anything like that. I did see the palm island and the Burj Al Arab Hotel, which look incredible from the air. It's hot, dusty, windy and humid. It stunk too, if I remember correctly. It's amazing what money will do...

The man behind Atalantis is a 'Seth Efrikan' property developer.
He admits it is not a good time to launch such a project but it was planned several years ago and they were too far into construction when the meltdown hit this year.
Even the multi-million dollars worth of fireworks had been included in the budget along with reported $5M that Kylie received for her performance.
According to the report covering the opening a top of the line suite costs A$35,000 - A$50,000 per night, depending on the source quoted.
As for the asthetics,'ugly as a hat full of arseholes' in the Aussie vernacular.
With luck, it might even emulate it's namesake.
I don't much like Dubai, great place for 'Desert Warefare' training but not much else.

PS: The opening ceremony budget would have been enough to bail out Eclipse Aircraft ........!!!!
