NYSP used to have black IROCs. They had gold lettering and were always immaculate. Very sharp car.

I'm not sure I'd mind getting pulled over, just so I could check it out. Glad I didn't though!

What I wouldn't give to drive one! I wonder, if I was to get pulled over do think the officer would think it weird if I asked if I could sit in his or her car??

The lightbar on the roof is a giveaway, around here, more and more local and state police are going to slick top cars. Slick tops have no lights on the roof, but have lights located inside the vehicle, along the top of the windshield and rear window. Often, you can't see them until they are right behind you or are passing you.

I was passed the other day by two unmarked vehicles with lights in the grill and back windows. They were going somewhere in a hurry.

The car here was jet black & did NOT have the light bar at the top - it only had the grid lights....:bump:

That's a Texas Highway Patrol traffic enforcement car. The THP (also known as the DPS, Dept. of Public Safety) have used Camaro's for years particularly in west Texas where there's long miles of straight nothing !

Sort of like the patrol areas featured in the Mad Max movie.

Here are the police cars of the future:

I bet cops on the road will appreciate Chevy's new car which will have "specially-designed front seats sculpted to accommodate a bulky tool belt." You have no idea what discomfort is until you have sat in a patrol car day after a day with a full "tool belt" (not a tool belt but you know what they mean).

The only problem I see with the specialty cars (Carbon Motors version and the modded Holden from Chevy) is that there are not civilian counterparts. Thus they are highly visible. Which is good for most things, but bad for undercover/unmarked. Part of the success (in my opinion, which is worth as much as you have paid for it plus maybe 20% extra as a bonus!) in speed enforcement with the Crown Vics, Impalas, Camaros, Chargers, etc. is that they look like civilian vehicles.

If you need another ill-considered reason - there is no used market available. (Sure, you recycle the E7, but that's about it.)

The roof, just like they are on the Smart Car police vehicles. :icon_lol:

Rather than restyle the Camaro to resemble the 1969 model, Chevy should've just reissued the 1969. One of the best looking rides ever made.

Just do like on "Cops" - call in another car that doesn't have a back seat full of TV production crew!

I agree with ya 100% Tarps. The "new" Camaro sucks... inside and out. And yes, I had the unfortunate oppertunity to sit in a couple of them. Afterwards i went home and took a 1 hour shower.

Besides, in no way possible does the new one resemble the 69 model. It's fugly unto itself.

The Crown Vic's are no more after this year. The plant in Ontario is closing. This also means the Lincoln Town Car and the (Now Defunct) Mercury Grand Marquise are going away too.

Ford's replacement for the Crown Vic is a stripped down version of the new Taurus SHO. And for K-9 units and the like, A pursuit rated version of the new Explorer.

And of course, Many departments are using Dodge Chargers. Around here, the smaller communities with back roads and or mountainous terrain have a few Ford Expeditions or Chevt Tahoe's (4x4 of course)
