So I grew up in Buffalo for 5 years of my life, and vowed that I would never physically go back in person cause I couldn't stand it. Occasionally though I fly there just to have someplace to fly to in FSX, and it really did not look like it does IRL. When Aerosoft released the Buffalo/Niagra X scenery I was intrigued, but then disappointed when reading about it to find it did not have night textures/seasons. I found out today though that FlyTampa! released KBUF a few days ago, and after looking at pictures of that finally decided to try both and give it a go. Spent 4 hours flying my Accu-sim B-17 from Florida to there, and all I could say is wow. It actually reminds me of the place I spent my high school years. I can recognize buildings/streets and all that stuff just flying around. Even the hotels across from the airport were there! My hats off to AS and FlyTampa for their excellent work on this. Before this my only scenery purchases were UTX/GEX USA. For the $40 dollars combined it was well worth the price, and highly recommend it for anyone from the Buffalo area. Going to have to make this a more regular stop in my journeys.. not to mention make it a habit to pick-up some more of FlyTampas airports. From the airport lights, to the taxiway signs.. it all looks real unlike the stock FSX junk. Now I see what all the fuss is about. Anyway enough blabbering, and on with the screens!

I opted for the more custom buildings option of the install, instead of using stock FSX autogen.. did not notice a frames impact, and it looks awesome.

HSBC arena where I have gone to many Sabres games over the course of that 5 years. Hoping to go back and go to a game this year.

I remember when the hotel on the right was a Days Inn.. Is where we used to stay when I was a kid and we came up to visit family, and all the blast barriers and such in their appropriate places

One more for the road. Nice detail on the maitenance hangar and the little private jet sitting nose in coned off... All I can say is this is a really nice scenery, and I look forward to getting my use out of it. Was waiting for other people to post screens/thoughts on it before I bought it, but like I said couldn't take it anymore after seeing the KBUF release. They both are great together. Almost going to suck to fly back to cruddy lookin Florida.

I bought them as well and am in total agreement with how well they mesh together. Thanks for the great pics. Now if someone would only do the same attention to detail with some military airfields... I know there are some groups such as MAIW and such, but would love a completely accurate air base, within the confines of acceptable FPS.

Wow:salute: Beautiful shots of a Great Scenery!! I'm a big fan of FlyTampa,Their Quality and support is unrivaled,I was also thinking of purchasing The Aerosoft product to go along with it.

What I'm hesitant of is FPS and Performance,As a Chicagoan I bought The ChicagoX product from Aerosoft, and although it's really nice looking at a decent altitude, up close the textures look like unshapen clay blobs, also if you have FSDT's fantastic O'Hare KORD installed you need a super pc to get above single digit frame rates.

Thanks Steve for the great shots!!!! Love that Accusimmed B-17 also!!
Cheers

Yeah it was nice to get in a different aircraft for a change with the 310 out. I really need to fly the 310 up to KBUF so I can get low and slow. Is hard to look at everything through the B-17's windows.. I lock my FPS at 20, and I did not notice any drop at all.. Even when cruising around the taxiways and such. I expected a large dip. I have read that about the Chicago X.. I was debating getting that, and O' Hare... Since my fateful journey to Florida began going from KBUF to Chicago's O'Hare to go to boot camp, lol. Not to mention I miss Meigs field.. That was always a scenic landing. I will get some pictures up of the falls and stuff tomorrow. I was trying to find my high school, but was running low on fuel so had to put her down. Just amazing after not going back for 5 years how much memories it brings back.

I know what you mean about Florida, but using Ground Evironment North America and FSDreamTeam's Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale Int'l the place starts to look a lot better. The airport scenery is 1st class and the ground environment makes the place look like home.

BTW...nice Buffalo shots

Thanks. Nice shots yourself. I have always wanted to pick up the RealAir Duke (at least I assume that is the aircraft).. FT Lauderdale would be good, but being up from Jacksonville the only nice sceneries I have been able to find are the ones by Jim Dhaens. He did a very good job on NS Mayport (where I work) and NAS Jax. Just need someone to come in and do all of Jacksonville, and the rest of Florida. I have tinkered around with it some with the Dev SDK.. Stuff is tedious though. Cause I would like to get Jacksonville, FL.. and then my actual hometown of North Augusta, SC/Augusta, GA. I was looking around on the FS DreamTeams site the other day when I discovered Fly!Tampas. You may want to check out that MegaScenery Earth website.. they have done all of Florida it seems except for where I am at, and the pan handle.. Hopefully they finish Florida like they did Oregon state.. Cause what I saw in the Avsim review the Oregon state scenery one looks very nice. http://www.megasceneryearth.com/store/cart.php?target=category&category_id=68

Yeah, Anything FT releases I get as their airports are incredible. I doubt they'll ever make a military airfield, though. One of the best military airfields I ever had was the FS9 Cloud9 Aviano Airbase. It's a shame nobody has made an accurate China Lake NAS to go with the FTX freeware scenery. I would love to see FTX do an accurate terrain texture file for the Fallon and Nellis Ranges including an accurate NAS Fallon, Nellis AFB, and Homey AFB (Area 51). They would be great for flying practice missions over.

Although I should add, jic you don't know, there are some great AFB's with Netherlands freeware pack.

Well thanks to this thread, I just spent a few pennies lol. I picked up the Niagra scenery at the Newport site and saw all the Hawaii scenery so I got that, too. Between the Newport scenery, Mega Scenery Hawaii, the freeware scenery at Lock-on, and the 10 m FSG mesh, I have almost the whole state covered and I don't feel the need to go there because I just was ;). Absolutely stunning. I need to go visit Buffalo now.

Hey Steve,We may see beautiful Meigs field back one day soon!! "Little King Richie" Daley,Chicago's Mayor for the last 21yrs is finally "Dethrowning" himself from office, and of course He is the sole purpose of Meigs closing in the 1st place. Back in March of 2003,He contracted a wrecking crew to Sneak onto the field in the middle of the night and carve huge X's in the runway.Even though there were a handful of aircraft parked there with no way to take off!!

Hopefully the next mayor will see the benefit and practicality of having a GA airport in the city to help decrease the traffic burden on Midway and O'Hare.

Here's a pic of "Little King Richie's" Sneaky work on the night of March 31st 2003
Sorry to get off topic Steve, this just gets my blood boiling!!!

Yeah I have seen the photo's before with the deeps X grooved into the runway.. with all those planes still trapped there. I know if I had the money to have an aircraft and it got marooned at the airport in such a fashion I would have sued... Seeing that they did that in the middle of the night if somebody would have died it would not have ended well for Mayor Daley. I knew why it was gone. Just a shame that it isn't there in FSX. Is why I was thinking of getting the Chicago X package. Everyone keeps saying it is extremely heavy on the frame rates though, plus have never seen any screens of it other than the Aerosoft promo ones on their site. If this package is any indicator though it must rock.

Here is a new addition to Jacksonville freeware. It is a remake of KJAX.

You might want to have a look. Although it is not payware quality, it is, non-the-less better than default.

I found it at flightsim.com listed under

FSX KJAX - Jacksonville International

I wonder if the scenery shows the Bell Aircraft plant and the old Franklin Engine plant. It was my only excuse for going into Buffalo. They did some historic things at that Bell plant.

I am unsure where the Bell plant and all would be at. The Tonowanda GM plant is in there though.. there are a bunch of large factory looking buildings to the West of downtown past HSBC arena on the lake that may be what you are talking about? I lived down in Lancaster, and only venture downtown to go to Sabres and Bills games. Sometimes I would go for the Thursday in the square.. Here are more shots though, the Canadian side is even better done than the America.. I remember standing on the American side and looking over and seeing all the casino's and such.

Meigs won't be back and that area is already a park and a concert hall where it used to be located. The traffic that went into Meigs didn't really add to Midway or O'Hare. It just went to more outlying airports, like near me, Gary-Chicago airport (KGYY) Where Boeing HQ bases their biz jets. Plus they're expanding the runway at the airport to be able to handle all of Boeings birds (Airliners).
