The quality dept. had touch screens at my old auto factory. They do get dirty, and sometimes have 'registration' problems. But they worked pretty well... and in an industrial setting.

On my iPad (which is PURE touch screen controls), I cannot see the fingerprints unless the screen is off. If the program running on it had alot of pure black in the background, then I would be able to see fingerprints. Thats on my unit. High gloss glass.

There are usb powered LCD touchscreen conversion kits available in a range of sizes for small money. I've never tried them though so don't know how accurate they'd be vs a mouse and keyboard. I've often toyed with the idea of getting one for use in a touchscreen controlled home entertainment jukebox system,though.
