Hi guys,

Some time ago I asked for advice on how to remove them so I tried it. All I deleted was the water tanks from the autogen Default XML file, however it didn't work, it removed all the trees too. I tried it again today by deleting the class sections containing these water tanks, but the same result, most of the trees are gone.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, these things look like space ships have landed !

Thanks

Neil

Here's mine. Don't know what I've removed exactly though since the mod stems from RTM times.

It should at least "de-americanize" Germany.

Europe doesn't have water tanks? :icon_lol: I think they look like giant transistors.

I think they look like giant transistors.

...and it's the Matrix after all...

In my part of the world (the Netherlands/Holland) we store the water in large concrete underground tanks and use pumps to deliver the pressure. In the past towers with a thin single water line to the top were used to pressurise the system (Communicating Vessels principle).
Although they lost their function, most of them are still there, wither as back-up system oe as monument

Below the concrete tower in the place where I live (Noordwijk)

Cheers,
Huub

Well thatīs what the things look like around here. Not those three-leged-tanks.

At least FSX does not have the french cathedrals all over Europe like FS9 had...shudder:-)

It would be cool to have the correct tank types in the right places.

It would be cool to have the correct tank types in the right places.

That could be possible via the autogen annotator and the default.xml, but it hasn't been tried before as far as I know.

Hi Pete,

My first house was in Bill Quay in 1961. I now live in South Shields.

Many thanks you your replies guys. I didn't expect a history and education into water towers, but there does appear to be some stunning water towers around the world that I'll no longer take for granted. If I tell the missus I'm discussing water towers with guys in the flight sim community, she'll think I've lost the plot :isadizzy:

I'll try just removing the library objects tomorrow, thanks.

I got rid of almost all the water tanks (I still missed a few unfortunately) by editing them out of the UK section of the XML file - I was last seen trying to get rid of all the "modern" buildings as well, to set the world back a few years.

It should be possible, if you create appropriate models, to replace anything in the default autogen files. I've not tried, but when I get back home later in the week, I may well try it.

This does seem like an area of FSX that hasn't been played around with much based on my internet trawls, yet can have a big impact on the visuals to give a more local feel to different countries.

OK, I've managed it this time, previously, I deleted the <class>, this time I just deleted the <libraryobjects> with the classes and those ugly water towers are no longer.

Hows that for coincidence, sometimes I feel like the only person who does this where we live! :salute:

Grunau that top picture is that near Hohne and Bergen in Germany I recognise that for some reason? No not really, but I think especially the first one is a more common object in some places. It has a nice restaurant on top;-) BTW: itīs (to give you a better relation than naming some tiny cownests) near Duesseldorf (15 miles), closer to the dutch border!

If you consider this, those more historic watertowers are as much fun for VFR as are Lighthouses! Great Landmarks for navigation.

Someone should seriously take them into account for their next scenery (city, country, area) projects. I always liked those towers a lot and we have a lot of them around here:

Yeah when I was staying with my mate who's in the Army there was a watertoweer that looked exactly like the one in your first picture the one with the restaurant on, it was huge and we didn't know what it was until this thread lol!

So, I guess when your flying outside of the States and get " temporally disoriented" dropping down and reading the name on the water tower is out of the question? :bump:

We donīt put the names of the places on them really. That would be way too easy for any pilot, wouldnīt it....:173go1:

Yep you won't have any luck. We place signs with the town's name along the road where you enter the town. And we put houses so close to each other that you can't land between them with an plane.

Cheers
