View Full Version : Weapons for FSX

This might be a dumb question but does anyone know how to add some kind of weapon to a plane in FSX? I'm at the air force academy and a bunch of the guys in the squadron get together on FSX multiplayer to fly formations and try to dogfight, but that gets a little pointless when we don't have anything to shoot at each other...

Any ideas?

Afraid not at the moment.

Closest we have to weapons in FSX are the flower bombs in the missions.

Good luck at the Academy. :)

Well I realize working weapons that actually damage other planes would be difficult but what about a simple texture that would turn on and turn off, with the lights maybe, and be a stream of bullets coming out of the plane? It doesn't seem that far out to me kinda like an afterburner coming out the front of a plane thats really long and has bunch of bullets in it. Thanks for the reply anyway.

Nope - flower bombs.

They do no damage - perfect for the "flower power" folks. ;)

Aerosoft is developing their FSX F-16 package, and viper pilots will be able to dogfight one another (guns and sidewinders only though).

Try adding this to the aircraft.cfg........
[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing light
light.0=5, -6.4, 0, 5.0, fx_landinglightf1
light.1=5, 10.4, 0, 4.0, fx_landinglightf1
light.2=5, -8.5, 10, 3.5, fx_landinglightf1
light.3=5, -8.5, -10, 3.5, fx_landinglightf1
light.4=10, 9.9, 5.28, -2.63, fsxgun
light.5=10, 9.9, -5.28, -2.63, fsxgun
the last two lines are for fsxgun ....take a look at the BSG Viper2 Rev.2 I added four to the A-26.....still trying to have the stream a bit faster but not worked on it of late.....The Dog.....Osudog

Osudog post refers to my BattleStar Galactica Viper Mk. II -- the effect for fsxgun is in the effects folder of the zip archive - true it can be used just as a lighting effect - however, take a look in the panel folder and at the panel.cfg file

in the panel folder is burnab.cab. this contains a gauge that allows the guns to be turned on and off by applying brakes (the trigger button on your joystick by default)
... but only when the landing gear are retracted

an entry in the panel .cfg can be applied to any panel.cfg you have- essentially you need to add the invisible gun gauge to the main panel [window00]

gauge##=burnab!m61, 10,10,2,2

just make to make the ## an unused gauge number

this gauge turns on/off cabin light effect - or fsxguns

finally to apply to a different aircraft imbed the lighting effects with approriate co-ordinates on the aircraft in the aircraft.cfg file in the aircrafts root folder

viper II example:

light.4=10, 9.9, 5.28, -2.63, fsxgun
light.5=10, 9.9, -5.28, -2.63, fsxgun

light.4(light#)=10(cabin lights), 9.9(long. axis), 5.28(lateral axis), -2.63(vert. axis), fsxgun(effect name)

*negative axis values are aft,left,down respectively

BUG: sometimes it wont display until you cycle the 2d cockpit once ( this "wakes up" the gauge)

tally-ho ! happy hunting

I imported the A-10 aerosoft folder from FS 2004 into FSX and that let the gun from that plane work ,unfortunatly it fires all the time and I had to disable it by deleting a line in the configuration file under the sub heading (LIGHTS) I am pretty computer useless but I am sure that someone a little more savy than I could "tweek" that file and make it suit your need.

It will eventually happen.. FSX aircraft can be modeled to break, effects can be made to go boom! Effects can load object libraries and destroy them or enduce failures.. Oh yeah it will happen for sure...

It already has happened , a direct hit causes exploding scenery ,multiple
droppable payloads with cameras that follow the bomb to the target or
top down views open onscreen when you release your payload.:applause:
I just have to get around to finishing it, with the stuff Acceleration added
to play with i got busy with the DSK and stil have to model some flying debris as a library object.

Hey cadet! You've got 18 hours course load, mandatory intramural sports, and military inspections. You don't have time for computer games!

Besides, there's probably some plebe who failed to memorize the lunch menu and needs your personal attention to his detail! :costumes:

ok -
goto simviation - FSX MISC and download MK82 bomb
extract and place model folder in simobjects/misc
... where the flour bomb folder also resides

then locate a saved FLT file with the Plane you would like armed and open it with notepad

add this section and save ...

[DroppableObjects.0]
ObjectSet.0=Mk82_1, 20

mk82_1 is the Title name in the sim.cfg of mk82
20 is the weapon count

I hope our USAF Academy member realizes I was joking. He hasn't posted again so I wonder where he went?

I guess it's possible that he really has been drained by the incredible course load and extramurals at the Zoo. They really don't give those young men much time off.

The bombs are just "normal" using the same effect, except the cluster and incendury, which is the Mk-77.

Perhaps off topic, but ken might enjoy this one. A friend of mine attended the Air Force Academy and finally recieved a short notice pass and decided to go visit his parents... Arriving at their home no one was home, but the key was under the mat as usual, observing some new furniture he procedes to the kitchen and procedes to make a sandwich.. folks are eating better too...

Of course some people walk in and the 'Who are you" greetings are exchanged...

You can get firing guns, with sound, that fire whenever you hold the correct key down. If you know how to work with modifying your Aircraft.cfg file, You can put any number of guns anywhere on your plane. The guns only fire directly forward, and can't cause or display any damage. The file is: rcbsc-20.zip, free, at avsim.com and flightsim.com. It's made by an incredibly productive guy, Rob Barendregt. He's made the same effect for FS9-they have to be different. Do a search on his name at those sites, and you'll find a vast array of FS stuff he's made.
