I was just looking at the WIP shots for the Vertigo F9F again and it reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask.

Does anyone remember the F9F that was made for the original GI Joe action figure back in the 60's. All of my buddies and myself had GI Joes and lots of add-ons ,but only one kid on the block parents bought him the jet.

I don't recall exactly how big it was other than the full size original GI Joe could sit in the cockpit. I want to say it had about a 3' wing span on it.

I've looked all over the net for a picture of one several times in the past few years but never have run across any reference to it.

That's too cool! It's the first time I've actually seen one since back then.

The first place I went looking was on Ebay but that was quite a while back. I started thinking I was nuts and that it never really existed when I wasn't able to find any refernece to one.

Thanks! :)

OMG, a Panther for Joe? How did I get through childhood without knowing that existed? I had the Mercury capsule (complete with space suit), but I'd have gladly traded it for a Panther. Our neighbor's Doberman managed to get hold of my astronaut Joe and pretty much shredded him. Oh, the revenge the surviving Joe could have doled out if only he'd had a fighter...

As much as I've been an aviation enthusiast since childhood...
I always wanted the Jeep with the mounted fifty, just like "RAT PATROL!" (In color)....

I had one, but my parents threw it away during one of my dad's Air Force PCS moves. When we got to the new base and the boxes were unpacked, I was very upset to find it gone. That was it for me and GI Joe...no plane, then no Joe.

Hey, that's cool! I had the olive drab jeep, the one with the howitzer mounted on a trailer and the working searchlight on the back. I think my son still has that, and he's almost old enough to pass it on to his son.

Oh man ! That brings back many memories.... I must still have mine somewhere in the attic. These were wildly expensive here in Europe, what with the dollar being 3,60 for a Guilder ... we paid 10 times the price we saw in the US brochures !

I remember I had very few original accessories.... a lot of (ugly looking, soft plastic) fake accessories were flooding the market.

If you've still got G.I. Joe stuff in your attic, dig them out and put 'em on Ebay! You'll never have to work again. :icon_lol:

It's funny now actually seeing pictures of the jet after all these years. The image I've had in my head was that it was much more realistic looking. Which it was to us back then. Kids and imagination is a great thing. :)

I still have my original (very first ones that came out) GI Joe with this Marine Dress Blues. He's in pretty good shape, I wonder how much he is worth? My Uncle, a Marine at the time, gave him to me for Christmas. I have a picture of me holding Joe in my hand with a 5 years olds look of wonderment. Great memory!

It's funny... I was born in '65 and have always had an affinity for the Panther. Never really gave much thought to why.

Then my dad was showing me some old 8mm movies and it turns out I had the Panther toy when I was about 4 or 5!

IIRC, I think the first few batches to come off the production line had the nail of the left or right thumb placed on the wrong side before the error was discovered ! You would have yourself a small goldmine then. I think this is correct or I may have had a dream...pun intended for the TV series "Dallas" :isadizzy:

Interesting, I'll have to look when ever I dig him out of storage.
