After checking out the Falcon 50 thread in the FS9 forums I though that the fun shouldn't be limited to just them. Guess what it ports over! (for the most part) The model doesn't have any problems with untextured parts and no props to worry about. Aside from the usual gauge problems found in panels of this vintage, the only other problem is I cant get the panel in the VC to show up. I'm hoping the VC issue is an alpha channel problem. Untill a fully FSX F-50 is out, this is a great substitute.

Great model (originally a FS2002 bird to my best recollection):medals:.
Had many fun hours with it. Has a great virtual interior as well.

Perhaps you should browse some French sites iot find out if some FSX mods are done.

If you have problems with understanding (reading) French, use Google translator.

Try looking up Yannik Lavinne (I think thats his name). He was into FS strongly years ago.

Wozza might know him also.

I tried to correct this issue some time ago by editing the Alpha channels in DXTBMP. Normally I am quite used to this kind of corrections, but in this precise case I was completely unable to get a proper display of the VC.

This plane looks great so I hope somebody will find a trick to make it work.

Do you already use the modification by Martin Becker (for FS9, but who knows..): http://www.flusi.info/files/Falcon50_2k4.zip ?

And a few improvements:

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar =1.0
parasite_drag_scalar =0.9
induced_drag_scalar =0.9
elevator_effectiveness =7.0
aileron_effectiveness =3.0
rudder_effectiveness =3.0
pitch_stability =1.0
roll_stability =1.0
yaw_stability =1.0
elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.0
aileron_trim_effectiveness =1.0
rudder_trim_effectiveness =1.0

[Autopilot]
autothrottle_max_rpm=99

Checklist: http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=73273

Falcon 50 Training Manual: http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=24819

Maybe you can fix it with MDLMat.

Several years ago I was sent the interior of the Falcon50's .gmax file so I could rebuilt it to FS2004 specifications and add emissive gauge backlighting.

After devoting two weeks of my valuable time to the project, I returned the completed project to them. Unfortunately, they never rolled the new VC into the original .gmax source file, nor did they ever release an updated model...

...I'm still quite annoyed about that! :banghead:

Maybe you should send those sources to some of the freeware makers here, so that they get a chance to convert this beauty to native FSX SP2 (or at least, FSX SP2 compatible) ?

Well, that would be a problem for several reasons. The primary one being that I don't even have the entire interior of the model. I only have the glareshield and virtual panels.

More to the point though it would be unethical for me to share even that partial .gmax file and bitmaps without permission from the original modeler...

...and he hasn't been answering email for well over three years now... :banghead:

Hi guys, I was able to make the Yannick Lavigne's Dassault Falcon 50 Virtual Cockpit to show properly in FSX. And replaced most of the gauges by some from the default King Air and Lear, and some freeware gauges from the Concorde (attitude and trim) and Dassault Alphajet (gear and flpas). It looks good! I still have to do the overhead panel... And didn't find a nice weather radar yet... Ok this is an old fs2002 design, but the impact on the FSX framerate is minimal, unlike most fs9 port-over! And this plane was so well designed back then (by Yannick Lavigne - Fred Banting - Rob Young), it is still a freeware gem even in FSX!!! I found some tips in a french forum, I'll try to find it again so I can credit the guy. Don't know how to publish this... Any advice? It's only 2 bmp files and the panel.cfg reworked...

Wow, congratulations !
Looks like you did a pretty good job here, can't wait to see the final result. Yes this plane was built for FS2002, but it was nicely shaped and it had excellent textures, so it still looks very good today.

Yes it's a pity the original designers are hard to track down... Would you have better luck than me? Today I've made the night lighting cockpit with some King Air and Bell default gauges. For the engine gauges it looks nice but it is highly unrealistic, the King Air is not a trijet ! If you look very closely you'll see prop rpm gauges... shame... Where do I find trijet engine analog gauges? and the overhead panel is hard to build...
Since my laptop has a 16:9 screen, I've made a widescreen 2d panel...

There's no secret here, basicaly all you have to do for making the VC show in FSX, make some background panel bmp images and in the panel.cfg add a "file" line like this:

[VCockpit01]
file=panel_VC1.bmp
size_mm=1024,1024
pixel_size=1024,1024
texture=$vcg1
background_color=0,0,0
visible=1
[...]

There's 4 places like this, 2 for day (pilot left half panel+copilot right half panel), 2 for night (same). So I just made 4 bmp images, tweaked the gauges, et voila ! Thanks to André (esmdu) at pilote-virtuel.com for the tip.

Would be great if once this is all figured out, it was posted somewhere together. I looked for and downloaded what I could find, but after loading everything all I get is "Visual Model cannot be displayed".
Also, just a personal opinion, but if this guys been invisible for 3yrs and you've made every effort to locate him with no results. . .I think you've gone beyond the statute of limitations for feeling bad if you turn what you have over to someone else to finish.
At the outset I'm sure he wanted this to be protected and that's all well and good, but if you leave the sim world, change your name or e-mail address or move to another country and fail to leave any forwarding information. . . . . . ."I'm just sayin'":wiggle:

Yes making progress with my Falcon panel for FSX. I know some of you are doing the same around here. Hope the buzz will catch and a nice set of gauges will suddendly appear! I might have found a weather radar with a MD11 package, but still no trijet analog gauges... don't want no glass cockpit with this Falcon. Not yet... I've checked a very nice Tristar, even a Tupolev 154, but I was disappointed with the gauges, most of them fs2002, again...

The gauges from the liners at dmflightsim.co.uk are compatible with FSX.
Also, the Dassault aircrafts made by Rollus, I'm thinking about the Mirage IV for example, have compatible gauges.

Thanks guys, you're most helpful!

The gauges from the HJG's 727 are compatible indeed and very nice but don't light up at night!
I'll try the gauges from the Mirage IV. The Trident from dmflightsim.co.uk looks promising as well... So far it looks like this:

2D panel for 4:3 monitors:

The real one looks like this, close enough isn't it? The credit goes to Lavigne and Cie of course...

There's a fake weather radar, that's alright... It's a real trijet, awesome! There's a lot of switches I might use for the overhead panel, nice!

But gauges don't light up at night. Can I live with that? Mmmm... Not sure... So I'll keep looking for the right medecine...

After studying closely how Philippe Wallaert made his xml gauges for his Tristar panel, and after reading some posts in freeflightdesign by Frank about Gau2Bmp and FS Panel Studio (that's the one I use), I've come to the conclusion that the best road to make a nice Falcon in FSX is to extract the bitmaps from all the YL50_xxx.gau file from the original FS98 gauges by Fred Banting and Yannick Lavigne, and then build new ones in XML... It's going to take some time, sure...
By using stock gauges from the Kingair and such, it's working but it's not satisfying...
By using the Tristar gauges by Philippe Wallaert, I feel like a thief....
I'm sure some people are already doing such reverse engeeniring with old FS98 gauges, so yes some help, tips or psychological support is much welcome! And some counselling about copyright could help too... No need to upset anybody by publishing something wrong or too soon...

New screenshot... Changes are not obvious but I'm learning a lot!

That is looking superb.

Am contiuing to experiment, but am several steps behind you. I can't seem to get any night lighting in the VC. It's pretty dark. I have a hyrbrid 2d panel right now using digital EADI and EHSI gauges from the Flight1 PC-12 - which you see retrofitted in quite a few Falcons - while retaining the analogue engine and other gauges. Will start swapping out some of the King Air for the L1011 gauges now. Please keep us posted on your xml work.

Oulala nice panel expat, this ADI is beautiful indeed.
Yes I think I may have the help of a real pro of Xml gauge building. He already made some similar panel for Falcon 7X and 2000. He's the one who made the Tristar panel I'm hacking. So it's very nice of him to join us! Thank you Philippe

Slowly improving the cockpit... I'll stick to analog gauges, maybe I'm too old fashioned...

But it's because this Dassault Falcon/Mystère 50 is from 1976 and the real one is stored at CAEA (Conservatoire de l'Air et de l'Espace d'Aquitaine) in France, a museum for Dassault retired aircrafts and other french icons.

Maybe you don't have the latest aircraft.cfg file, there is a "lights" section you might need. Here it is:

[LIGHTS]
light.0 = 3, -7.7, -31.2, -2.1, fx_navred ,

light.6 = 2, 4.61, 0.00, -3.62, fx_beaconb ,

Thanks for your response. What got it to work for me was to i) use the default vc lights for the cabin lights, and for the VC panel ii) add an entry with the coordinates the same as the eyepoint.

Have now added L1011 gauges, new autopilot (with AT) and created panels for both an analogue - "vintage" - aircraft (as you point out, the plane goes back to 1976 which is cool and to be respected) and also, for fun, an Falcon 50EX which will have greater range and performance.

Before I forget! Borrowed the overhead panel and throttle quadrant for the PAD freeware Falcon 7x and really am now in business. Thanks for the help and inspiration.

Now with FSX you can add "camera definition" in the aircraft.cfg file. It's fun! Here are the one I've adapted from various planes: The inside view is worth the trouble... There's not a lot of aircrafts with such a level of detail in the passenger area in the freeware hobby. And this one dates back from fs2000! The Goose G21 for FS9 was nice, and some big Sikorsky S-42 & S-43 boat planes too, but that's about it...

Yes it's coming! The regular cockpit is almost ready, some gauges in the overhead panel popup are hard to fix... And I'm waiting for the green light from all the original creators and partners, don't want to upset them... Some did reply !

Just for fun I'll try some inside texture changes. My girlfriend asked for some sheepskin seatcover for pilot and copilot. Since I'm spending way to much time on my computer, I couldn't say no to her, so I found some real aviation equipment web site and we looked at their online catalog, and we settled for a nice honey tan shade... Women... can you believe it... Screenshot soon...

Xml programming of switches is not that difficult. Locating the original bitmap of the red switches was a bit more challenging (remember the overhead panel didn't work in FS9). Puting it all together with FS Panel Studio is a piece of cake... I'll try to keep as close as possible to the original look. And some switches are still wrong or missing... So not ready yet...
And after that? Illuminating the engines gauges would be a nice touch. André told me how to do it... But I'm a bit lazy tonight... And I want to fly!

How is Yannick doing? Is he one of the people that responded? He was pretty good at models.

Repainting the inside compartment is not that easy. My experiments with the sheepskin seat cover was terrible... I trashed it right away... I'll stick to gauges, nothing else. I realize how difficult it is to be a "texture" creator. And you need a lot of TALENT and PATIENCE of course. Yannick Lavigne had both, I don't have any...

Lavigne was the "artist" who made the wonderful textures I suppose. He had access to the real plane in France. Fred Banting made the incredible cockpit modeling and gauges, Rob did the flight dynamics as realistic as possible, maybe he flew in one of those, or talked to pilots. It's a real dream team. It has to be, the plane wouldn't have survived so many changes in FS software and harware...

More news soon... Have a nice weekend

How is Yannick doing? Is he one of the people that responded? He was pretty good at models.

Rob is the only one who replied so far and he's quite supportive. No trace of Fred Banting anywhere (any clue?), same with Mr Lavigne so far...

So I keep improving the panel with little goodies, trying to stay as close as possible to the original design. I think my autopilot is even better integrated than the original... And the WAAS Gps Map Gauge by Don Kuhn is a good useful alternative to the weather radar...

23230

The autopilot is very basic, you'll have to adjust the little knobs in each corresponding gauges, like in the real plane I think. Where is the autopilot in a real 1976 Falcon 50 anyway? Did I got it right?

By the way I need an XML gauge with such a little knob and a moving "bug" to adjust the desired speed. I found such a gauge in another Tristar (by OMWings) but it's a C++ gauge I can't recycle. I need the XML equivalent: it's a 450kts variant, it has 3 needles: speed (white), max speed (red and white), desired speed (orange). Pretty common, but haven't found it yet!

Where are you guys finding some of those repaints I see in the exterior screen shots? particularly, N939FE and N144AD in Expat's screen shots.

Edit: Also as a side note. Looking at the panel shots, the VSI goes under the altimeter in the standard "T" instrument set up. Not the RMI.

Is this the correct Alt/VSI config in the attached screenie below? I am fooling around with three different panel versions: analogue - like vonstrohiem's; fully digital a la Collins Pro line on the 50EX; and in between as per below, using F1 PC-12 EADI/EHSI.

Do you think that should take care of the copyright issue? What else can be done? What are the real risks, if any?

Considering the longevity of this airplane, you'd have to consider that some of the original designers have either passed on or at least have left the Flight Sim community for other endeavors. You have made a gallant effort to contact everyone who participated in it's early release and so the disclaimer above should suffice on the off chance that someone will miraculously reappear after all these years the instant this is released (isn't that always the way it happens, lol).

I concur. As long as you...

1) acknowledge in the documentation the work of others that is included (and use only freeware items) and
2) don't make any money from it

You need to switch around the smoke coordinates in the air.cfg as with other FSX port overs. If you don't know how to do this I can post my cfg entries later.

I have the issue that they show only when lights are off,once i turn on the original aguges reappear,although not in the panel .cfg

Not 100% it's the same issue as yours, but there seems to have always been from the start a "known issue" - in my VC's (I have both analogue and digital) the gauges which I have myself added in the VC (by changing the panel.cfg entries) do NOT appear UNLESS I switch the interior lights on. Bit strange, but I have got used to it.

Is this the same or are you having the opposite problem - i.e. your add on gauges will only appear with the lights switched OFF?

vonstroheim
November 17th, 2010, 05:26
... they show only when lights are off...

In panel.cfg, you must copy all the changes made in [VCockpit01] section to the [VCockpit03] section. [VCockpit01] is intended for the day panel textures, [VCockpit03] is the night textures.

Same with [VCockpit02] and [VCockpit04], this is the right copilot side, day/night...

So it's just a matter of copy/paste the gauges lines from [VCockpit01] to [VCockpit03], and [VCockpit02] to [VCockpit04]. Hope this is clear enough... This is a very clever trick and I believe Fred Banting is the one who designed this part. And Lavigne made the four day/night & left/right textures I just recycled.

In the aircraft.cfg, you do have a "lights" section you can play with, but for other purposes (mostly light effects inside and outside the plane). My "lights" section is like this. You might have some differences, depending on which Falcon you found online or in your archives...

[LIGHTS]
light.0 = 3, -7.7, -31.2, -2.1, fx_navred
light.1 = 3, -7.7, 31.2, -2.1, fx_navgre
light.2 = 2, -8, 31.4, -2.1, fx_strobe
light.3 = 2, -8, -31.4, -2.1, fx_strobe
light.4 = 1, -25.2, 0.00, 17.7, fx_beaconh
light.5 = 3, -24.2, 0.00, 8.37, fx_navwhih
light.6 = 2, 4.61, 0.00, -3.62, fx_beaconb
light.7 = 5, 11.45, -2.10, -2.50, fx_landing
light.8 = 5, 11.45, 2.10, -2.50, fx_landing
light.9 = 4, 24.50, 1.80, 2.55, fx_vclight_f50
light.10= 4, 24.50, -1.80, 2.55, fx_vclight_f50
light.11= 4, 19.00, -0.30, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.12= 4, 14.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.13= 4, 10.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.14= 4, 6.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.15= 4, 0.80, -0.00, 1.05, fx_vclight_f50

...smoke is not coming from engine...

Well I'm not too sure how to fix this, but this is an aircraft.cfg issue and it might also be related to a xml gauge in the panel, not included in my version. But I have to backtrack a bit about the history of this plane:

The fs2000 version was upgraded to fs2002 by the original authors. So far so good. For the fs9 migration around 2004, the gmax files were handed over to some people, like n4gix (read his earlier posts in this thread) and also to Eric Dantès a french guy who finalized the fs9 version and made it available via the FranceVFR web site. This version is really very nice, Eric added most of the animations and all the goodies around the plane (the famous red carpet is his signature, try it yourself: stop the engine, open the door and turn the lights on). FranceVFR decided to scrap their freeware section because of too much abuse, and now they sell wonderful VFR scenery covering all of France and parts of Europe as well (they have planes and AI too). And Eric's version unfortunatly became harder and harder to find, and his name is almost never mentioned, it's a pity. Not sure this story is 100% acurate, but I'm afraid the real story might even be darker...

Martyn Becker is a famous german simmer, and he did some work with the lights and the smoke effects for this plane and other ones as well. Some versions of the Falcon 50 still floating around the web have a different aircraft.cfg file, and I suppose these are the one updated by Martyn: There is a smoke_effekt xml gauge in the panel (only in the 2d panel). I think it still works, and you have additionnal fx files to go along, but you'll have to monkey around by yourself depending on the version you have... I'd like to see how expat moved the smoke back to where is it supposed to be!

This should sort you out. You need to juxtapose two of the three x,y,z coordinates (can never remember which two) for the settings in FS9 to work correctly in FSX. Otherwise the smoke appears at 90 degress to how it should: -

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00, fx_eng_exhaust_gry//
smoke.1=-36.00, 0.00, 1.00, fx_eng_exhaust_gry//
smoke.2=-33.00, 8.50, 1.00, fx_eng_exhaust_gry//

Ludovic,

Thanks for the pointer on the VC panel.cfg entries - off to sort out my digital panel.

Sorry - to be clear - just cut and paste the entries above as they are into your air.cfg over your old entries (or comment out if you want to save). You don't need to do anything further.

[LIGHTS]
light.0 = 3, -7.7, -31.2, -2.1, fx_navred
light.1 = 3, -7.7, 31.2, -2.1, fx_navgre
light.2 = 2, -8, 31.4, -2.1, fx_strobe
light.3 = 2, -8, -31.4, -2.1, fx_strobe
light.4 = 1, -25.2, 0.00, 17.7, fx_beaconh
light.5 = 3, -24.2, 0.00, 8.37, fx_navwhih
light.6 = 2, 4.61, 0.00, -3.62, fx_beaconb
light.7 = 5, 11.45, -2.10, -2.50, fx_landing
light.8 = 5, 11.45, 2.10, -2.50, fx_landing
light.9 = 4, 24.50, 1.80, 2.55, fx_vclight_f50
light.10= 4, 24.50, -1.80, 2.55, fx_vclight_f50
light.11= 4, 19.00, -0.30, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.12= 4, 14.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.13= 4, 10.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.14= 4, 6.00, -0.00, 2.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.15= 4, 0.80, -0.00, 1.05, fx_vclight_f50
light.16= 4, 22.90, -0.70, 2.7, fx_vclight_f50

Thanks for the good feedback! So far it's pretty encouraging. Even Fred Banting said he liked it... Thank you Fred.

PS: I've included my aircraft.cfg file for those who have trouble flying the plane. Seems to me the version they have at the swiss virtualairforce web site is a bit wrong in the flight dynamics department. The version I have is the official one from the Eric Dantès upgrade back in 2005. It works just fine. Merci Eric.

Small update to the panel: missing gauges added, autopilot fixed, anti-ice switches added, start engine switch fixed (Lee is going to like that: you can start each engine separatly, beginning with engine 2, just like in the real life... but don't forget to switch off the start buttons when N1 reaches 20% or more...)

What's new: autopilot relocated next to ADI (the complete autopilot panel is in the console, like in the real thing). Functionnal trim gauge next to speed brake handle and flaps lever. Added some radio gauges (ADF, ATC). One autostart engine (orange) switch and 3 individual (white) start engine switches in the overhead panel.

Temple Inland Forest N77TE repaint by Brad Baker (fsdome.com).
FSX New Caledonia scenery by Marc-Henri Guitteny (marcoh.gratisim.fr).

December 3rd, 2010, 15:50
Mmmm that's very strange... Mine is working ok when I use the "L" key (all lights on), but with the individual light switches in the overhead, pilots don't show, that's indeed a bug, I'll see what I can do... Sorry... That's what beta releases are for! Thanks to the courageous test pilots!

Edit: I've attached the event "ALL_LIGHTS_TOGGLE" to the cabin (interior) light switch, and now the crew appears with the flick of a switch... I don't think this has something to do with the throttle position... Maybe during a long flight, the day turned into the twilight, and since the lights are programmed to turn on automatically, the crew popped into position from nowhere... Typical X-file effect I would say... or Twilight Zone... Dangerous game for sure!

New switch in next release...

December 4th, 2010, 05:00
I think I know why your plane crew is acting funky. You might be using Martin Becker smoke system gauge, or a similar smoke trick (Nick's Smoke maybe) and these xml gauges do trigger lights based on throttle position... So disable or fix these gauges. Or use my aircraft.cfg file, which is very close to the original one, without smoke effects and with proper flight dynamics.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=39

This is an excerpt of the readme file, it says it all: "A big "thank you sir" to Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting and Rob Young who approved the distribution of this panel. Thank you also to Eric Dantès, without his FS9 version of the Falcon 50, we wouldn't be here. Philippe Wallaert made a wonderful contribution with all the new XML gauges. Don "fxsttcb" Bodenstedt was kind enough to give me his overhead panel and his avionics expertise. André "esmdu" from pilote-virtuel.com is the genius behind all this, thanks to him the virtual cockpit shows properly in FSX. And many thanks to Gilles from Aquitaine Simulation for the web hosting. "

And thanks to the S.O.H.community for support and advice. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the Kudos.
Your wariness might have been warranted earlier! Ha-Ha!

Though the release version differs slightly from my personal version, you can rest assured it works Great!
I've made at least a half dozen complete VFR and IFR flights with it(more with my own) and haven't felt the need to tweak. That from an avid(read addicted) tweaker, who can't keep his mitts off of anything!
Of course that doesn't mean that it won't be updated if someone comes across a glaring error that our myopia has overlooked.
Besides, if you don't like it, you can always hit the delete key! I doubt very seriously that will happen. So far, there hasn't been any negative feedback here.

The only thing that could be added is a Weather RADAR IF one of us can create one that has a modicum of reality. More than likely a seperate .zip anyhow.

I started some research on the Dassault factory Glass Cockpit(EX) to get an idea of what the actual instrumentation is. I also looked at lots of privately updated versions too.

Maybe you folks can provide some links and let us know what your idea of a Glass Cockpit should be...No Promises...Too early to decide anyhoo!

Enjoy!

Happy Holidays to all!

The only thing that could be added is a Weather RADAR...

If you can afford it, the Reality XP Simulation WX-500 looks cool... and period correct for this Falcon (reality-xp.com).

26225

To fill the void in the panel, I choose to package in the panel the fake weather radar by Philippe Wallaert. Cute and turned-off by default (click on the screen to turn it on). I also use the "hsi-gps-map" I found in the freeware Iris Tornado F3... Couldn't include it in the panel, but it's an easy swap (irisfss.com).

26227 26242

The fs2x_WAAS GPS Navigation System version 2.0 by Don Kuhn is very nice too (fs2x.com).

Yes we'll definitly work on a Falcon 50EX in 2011! And more repaints, inside and out... to keep you happy (yes we heard you Lee!)

Another X-Mas present: The complete Dassault Falcon 50 FSX package is available at Aquitaine Simulation. No need to fiddle around with various Windows Vista issues or the nice but tricky FS9 installer! It's here in one easy zip archive, ready to fly in FSX, just two or three clicks away:

Happy New Year !

Was a bit lazy lately... Did found some time for a new repaint, a "Canadian Forces" fictitious livery based on the real Bombardier Challengers from the Trenton CFB, for you DL... Not ready yet! (red tips missing on wings and tail)... There is room on the no 2 engine for some marking, should I move "Canada" up here?

And what is the policy about publishing repaints? I don't want to disturb anymore the original creators, I was a bit pushy with this fsx panel affair... and these mediocre attempts at repaints are really not in the same category... are they?

Yeehaw!!! - I'm loving it.

Yes, the Canada looks a bit hemmed in over the windows. The Challenger, being tall, and with the windows placed further down, had more room. My vote is your suggestion of moving the Canada logo onto the engine(s). So long as there has been a way of fixing the reversed texture thing - my French Marine texture is like that. Not that it's the end of the world by any stretch.

Many thanks!

(red tips missing on wings and tail)... There is room on the no 2 engine for some marking, should I move "Canada" up here? I think you have one super start on the paint! Looks real good now! I want one when completed...

And what is the policy about publishing repaints? I don't want to disturb anymore the original creators, I was a bit pushy with this fsx panel affair... and these mediocre attempts at repaints are really not in the same category... are they?As far as a re-paint goes, unless you are doing something stupid, like only changing the numbers and calling it your own, you are creating an original work. As an original work, you have a full copyright of your own, and can distribute it at your discretion without any permission needed.
Because some folks will take issue when you include original, un-modified, textures(for easy installation) it is better to just include a texture.cfg with the fallbacks.

Have a Great Day!...Don

Yes, the Canada looks a bit hemmed in over the windows...

After a few updates, the Canadian Force repaint looks like this so far...

27420 27421

My fictitious French Marine repaint was easier...

27422 27423

The engines 1 & 3, the wings and the nose cone have this "mirror" effect... So markings are hard or impossible there... A little trick is to use "palindrome" words or numbers like 88 or 101, which can be read in either directions...

Yea, texturing shortcuts were normal back in the old days but with the nearly unlimited resources of FS2004/FSX there's really no reason anymore.

The Canadian bird looks much better with the "Canada" on the intake. Please advise when available.

I've uploaded here in the addons library the "Canadian Forces / Forces canadiennes" repaint. It's not exactly similar to the real CF livery, but close enough (no red on wing tips, try yourself and if you get it right, I'll be happy to update the zip file!):

The model for this repaint is the real Bombarder Challengers from the Trenton CFB. Daniel "delta_lima" sent me the pictures, and I think this canadian repaint was appropriate. After all I live here, and I believe Fred Banting, one of the original creator of the Falcon 50, is a canadian too.

Hello Falcon lovers!

I can attribute the return of my love for the Falcon 50 to this thread, I always enjoyed flying the aircraft and had completely forgotten about her until I stumbled upon this thread.

As a thanks, I'd like to share my retrofit for the 2D, and VC with the ISG v1.8 Gauge Pack.

The aircraft is now VNAV/LNAV capable, includes the EADI/EHSI package... and a Smith's FMS to top it off.

Hope you all enjoy, and thanks to those who made this possible.

Sorry for the late reply, was away for a few days...

The FA50.cfg is a configuration file specific to the Falcon 50's FMS...

You just need to simply put the FA50.cfg file in to the

"ISG\Aircraft" folder

Mine is located as such:

C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ISG\Aircraft

Thanks Frank

The Lavigne/Banting/Young/Dantes/Vonstroheim Falcon 50 FSX full package v 1.1 appeared recently at Simviation and Avsimrus without my knowledge. It's ok with me because it's a real freeware aircraft and quite an old project. So no need to be offended. On the contrary, it appears more people are enjoying it! It's in the top 3 so far at Simviation...
http://simviation.com/1/download-stats?last=90

At avsimrus they deleted the readme file and the credits (except in the panel.cfg file), that is quite wrong. Maybe I should have provided a russian translation. But I use avsimrus a lot, how can I be really mad at them? I'm in their FSX file library alongside a Tu-154M... cool...

Hi folks,

sorry for warm up an very old thread,

but i have converted Yannick Lavignes Dassault Falcon50 to FSX native version,
with FS Developers ModelConverter X.
The F50 works great and looks pretty good.

I like to share my work with interested flightsimmers.
But i can not reach Yannick Lavigne to ask for permission.

I'm not a native english or french speaker, so any help to do this is welcome.
My last english lesson is forty years ago and google translator is my friend ;-)

i think i need permission from
Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting, Rob Young ,
Eric Dantès who build the FS2004 version
and André "esmdu" ,"expat", Ludovic "vonstroheim" who has build Version 1.1
which i use for this project.

I would like to respect the copyrights and want give all credits to the original
authors and involved persons.

what do you think about that ?

Best regards

Hello Bjoern,

In fact, the lady looks very good for age

The inner textures could be rejuvenation,
They are a little blurry,but that does not really disturb .
I've tried to improve them, but without good results.
Perhaps some texture artist can do this.
I know there are some really good ones.

indeed,
with today's possibilities you can push up the look of an old airplane up to date .
Some exterior repaints look okay,
Only the interior textures must probably rebuild from scratch.
I have unfortunately no experience in creating textures, spec or bump maps.

There was a texturing problem with the original model.

Both motors are using the SAME paintkit "area" thus prohibiting any writing on them.
Better explained by this picture seen in pilote-virtuel.com

http://www.easy-upload.net/fichiers/falc_50.20101217163054.bmp

Do you think you could do something, as you have recreated the model ?

I don't have recreated the model, only converted with MCX.
To solve the problem, I would have to install GMAX.
I think, then there is a way.
I only use MCX at this moment and can not seperate the
two engines.

Let's see what can be done in future. :wavey:

In this particular case I think it would be quite easy to separate the engines.
When first imported into MCX the left and right engine are separate modelparts, they can easily be separately deleted or isolated.
Once isolated is should be possible to edit the texture names to be reacL & reacR for example.
The left and right engines can then be merged back into main MDL.
Sounds easy at least (I haven't actually tried it).
Hopefully the original modellers will approve of this conversion.

Postbaer61

i have exactly tried this.
But the left and right engine, are one component in MCX
and use only one texture.
perhaps you can seperate the both engines with GMAX
and you can change the layout for texturing.

Hello Gerard,

I have written a message to Mr. Yannick Lavigne of an
Announcement about the release of the new model.

I know from Ludovic "vonstroheim", who had the last contact with him,
Mr Lavigne has nothing against the publication of his
model,as long as no significant changes are made
and it remains as an freeware project.

I think, Mr. Lavigne has withdrawn from the flight simulator community
and does not want to deal with it any more.

So far he has not spoken negatively about my plans, so I assume,
I can publish the new models soon.

I met Mr Lavigne a few weeks ago at the first aeronautical airshow held at LFCS (Bordeaux - Léognan - Saucats). I had a chat with him (very nice man) and I confirm he is no longer in the flightsim area, he moved on several years ago to the aerial photography.
He still owns this Humbert Tétras (french ultralight aircraft) which he started reproducing a few years ago but never ended:

Wow! :redfire: Thank you to all of the folks that have worked on bringing back this treasure. She flies like a dream and I am reliving the days of FS 2002. The Dassault Falcon 50 is a long time favorite and it is wonderful to be flying her again.

Already have 15 hours on her.

Thank you again for the perseverance in bringing back Lavigne's masterpiece of the time.

Hello Postbaer61,

You made my day :jump:.
Thanks to your explanations and tools, I just easily updated my personnal copy of the WhiteMarine by Martial Feron.

https://s13.postimg.org/gr3oanc5z/FX_2016_nov_7_017.jpg

I just duplicate my post on the Library download, as I am not sure at was in the right place...

Just a question - the windshield is very dark seen from outside - pilots are barely visible (with lights on as before).
I noticed that there is a missing texture : GLASS_S.DDS.

Could this be reason ?

Thanks all,

Gérard you are right,

i must have upload the wrong file,

i'm sure i have all textures added and
corrected the aircraft.cfg files.

Anyway , i have made a patch, which is on the way,
with the missing glass textures and more transparent
wind textures.

I am sorry for the circumstances.

Nothing new here - you've seen this posted in the older long thread on porting over the F50. Just shows the mod potential. EADI is from the payware Flight1 PC-12 but you can use other payware (eg Carenado) or freeware gauges to interior decorate . .

"Anyway , i have made a patch, which is on the way,

And, yet again, the patch has disappeared from the library. I understand why this happens, but it doesn't really help those of us with download limits. Now, to get the patched files, I have to use up 80 Mb of my limit instead of 40 Mb. Please can you at least upload the patch to this thread ...

Thanks for the FSX conversion! Are there any USA liveries with the corrected and flipped registration on the engine?

Edit I found the one in the package itself. Any clues why I have no sound? Something I missed in the readme?

This repaint by Martial Feron ("ferondoe") was available on the French Air Force website, unfortunately offline. The "Wayback Machine" (internet archive) has kept a trace here (http://web.archive.org/web/20081114200504/http://www.frenchairforce.fr/download.php?view.157). There is 2 repaints in this package, the other one is a "République Française" livery. Maybe the package is available elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. Why don't you ask Martial? He makes really nice repaints...

Hallo Ryan,

Thank you,

As Gérard correct explained, the sound is aliased to the default Lear45 sound.

You could find nearly all repaints at Flightsim.com,AVSIM.net, simviation.com.
Search for Falcon 50 and you will get some americans.
They diden't have registrations on his engines and you have to reworked them
as i explained in the repaint ReadMe file.

I would have done it, but I need the permission of all repainters
and that is unfortunately too much effort, sorry.
It's very simple and I'm sure you can make it. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon23.gif

Here is a solution for the sound problem for P3D and all other users
they don't use the default Lear45.

I found at AVSIM.net
a free Honeywell TFE731-20BR sound,
which should sound pretty similar to the original Honeywell TFE731-40 engines,
imho.

you need the optional sound package from the zip file.
Put the content of sound file into the Falcon sound folder ,and the new
three engine sound.cfg which you found in this download.

all info in Falcon50alternate_sound.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hlm6xd58dx3869s/Falcon50alternate_sound.zip

also is there a small update to use the yoke clickspot in VC, thank you Gerard http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon27.gif

I should know this, but if I wanted to make all the glass darker, in FSX do you make the alpha (in the wind.dds texture) lighter - the opposite of what you do in FS9?

This is something I'm doing for myself, but if anyone is interested I'll upload when it's finished. I'm doing the static/non-functional gauges and modules to try to clean up the noise seen in the current VC bitmaps. The current ones are certainly fine, I just like clean sharp images with text that I can read, even if the particular gauges don't really work. I'm also going to redo the base background panel as well. The functional gauges already have bezels and so I won't mess with those other than adding a slight drop shadow for depth.

This is the only version I'm doing so if you've done custom work and added additional gauges or moved things around to suit you then this won't work. JS

Very fine work Ed as usual. Looks much cleaner/tidier.

OT: I have found that the alpha channel for the flaps.dds in the new (Bluebear's) native model textures may be too dark, and possibly set for reflection in FS9 rather than FSX. I made the alpha lighter/whiter but still have trouble getting any reflection to appear. The leading edge slats in real life are very mirror/chrome like. Reverting to the "original" flap.bmp Bluebear kindly and helpfully included in his package (thanks again!) made the reflection better.

OT 2: is it possible to get the red carpet and attendant standing on the ground to appear, or is this animation not workable in FSX?

for information, a new update is coming soon. :running:

I have fixed some small bugs.
There was a problem with the backwing texture.
I renewd the flaps reflections, now they looks like chrome
as in real.

Fixed the missing shadow representation on panel.
Fixed the Yoke clickspot in vc.

Add a sound file and the flaps_spec texture.

It is no more possible to show the attendant on red carpet,
because he is not showing in MDLX in opposite to the pilots
which i found in the model file from FS 2002.

"Gauge polygon" is the term used to descibe polygons with "virtual cockpit" type materials and "$..." textures, so if you managed to make the overhead and pedestal clickable, you've implemented gauge polygons into the model. (Good job again!)

Hallo Scott,

thanks for the interest .
I'm curious about your experience.
Sadly ,I have no experience with gauge programing,
otherwise i would had build an actual Version of cd radio,
but perhaps it works for you.

Hallo expat ,

Very nice variant of GPS, who is this from ?

The new pedestal panel offers many possibilities .
I am curious about what users will try.

I could also imagine a modern EX panel variant

Upper display is a Raytheon freeware radar available at avsim. Lower one is an Avidyne unit borrowed from the payware Carenado B200.

Hey Bluebear,

Unfortunately it didn't seem to work for me. I had very low FPS with the CD active. As you stated there was an issue with the sound (volume) mixer when using the CD. Apart from the usual speakers and system sounds, two more fields were added to my volume mixer, one for FSX sound and one for Steam sound (I was using FSX:SE). I didn't seem to get any sound from the CD player, and as I said there were extremely low FPS (<1 FPS). When I ended the flight a windows error message indicating a problem with the volume mixer appeared. I did notice that adjusting the volume on the CD player adjusted the FSX volume (engines, ATC etc).

Not to worry, the rest of the package is amazing. I will just play my CDs in the PC drive if I need to ;) .

Cheers,

I've installed only this update and don't see any Falcon 50's...was I suppose to install the original first then this update over the original FS9 version? Where is the original version?
not seeing any Dassult in aircraft menu... I've also installed the panel update.
