Carrier Takeoffs

The initial screen after briefing is usually the "Player/Target View."

In the missions in CFS3, PTO and ETO, you are in hull of the ship.

Normally you would then select "Virtual Cockpit View" for flight. Can you ever fly in the "Player/Target View" of the Carrier deck?

I do not think you can take off from a moving Carrier in CFS3. You can only that in CFS2 and IL46 through the Pacific Fighter option.

You can takeoff/land from a still or moving carrier. The missions currently in ETO are from a still carrier with wind coming down the deck.

In order to get the views attached move your scenery slider to either 3 or 4 depending on your video card. With mine any setting below 4 puts me in the belly of the carrier. Hope this helps,

ERA 3 Swordfish Submarine Hunt. This is a night carrier takeoff and landing. After you spawn wait a minute or so for the carrier to fire a flare as your takeoff signal and to give you a little light on deck. You should also get a flare when you return to land.

ERA 4 Gladiator Greece Carrier Mission (I used 44 to enable the Italian airfields and facilities). Germany has entered the war in this theatre and You are providing air cover for the evacuation of British Forces from one of the last remaining seaports in Greece. You and another Gladiator will takeoff from your carrier to engage Stukas attacking the seaport and nearby airfield. The stukas are escorted by 109s, this is not an easy one.

There are also some great missions in the 1.02 release by Talon that use carriers but are not carrier takeoff.

You will see a lot of carrier takeoff and landing missions in the March release featuring the Royal Navy Hellcat and Avenger.
