Ickie, for some reason, Tom cannot log-in here?

"Hi guys, yesterday Rob had a stroke. His Wife Suzan called me today and told me he has some movement in his extremities and On Friday I'm going into the hospital to see him and see what I can do to help out Suzan.

Caz, I can't log into the outhouse for some reason and so I can't post a notice to let folks know that Rob is very sick right now. Could you please let the crew at SOH know that he is sick and I will keep you guys informed on his condition as it continues into the future.

Right now they don't know the severity of the stock and I will have more information by the end of the week.

As you know Rob is a good friend and the voice of Cr1 and so I hope he will be ok soon.

Thanks Guys!

Damn! :eek::frown:

I wondered why he'd been absent from the SOH TS server the past couple of days...he's usually in there most of every day!

My thoughts are with him and his wife at this very trying time.

I got this email from Rob him self just a short time ago.

i am alive

Yes, as you may have heard, i have had a bit of a problem. had a small stoke on Sat
I am alive aand mostly healthy-right side --arm and leg are impaired( but have feeling) and rest of me is mostly ok--- bad attitude is fully intact)

Hospitalized for a bit until blood pressure is stable and rehab moves along-lileky another 2 weeks plus. BUT i can now sit and be wheeled around ( could do it myself but they have some damn rules) so i found a public access comp. Here i am..
bitch is that i can't log into SOH (read-only) so would you pass the word in the thread?

Within a few days i should be able to get around a bit more.

Small steps...
Got moved out of the stroke ward and into rehab today so now the goal is to get thrown out of the hospital :icon_lol:

Apparently the plan is 3-4 hours of physical, occupational (there's a course in Grumpy????) and recreational rehab per day, BUTTTTT if I'm good I can earn day-parole or even a weekend pass!!!!!!:kilroy:

So now all i have to do is upgrade the 30% strength and control in my right side to 95% and declare victory. Since it's gone from zero to 30% in a week, it'll be a snap!

Hey! I just tried that!!!! I can snap my fingers on mt right hand!!:applause: (lol --small steps)

Thanks for being here and giving my mind some exercise

Welcome back Rob.

As you said, "small steps." Every goal oriented manager I know says to set small goals that are easily achievable, as you do that you feel you are making progress quicker ... ;)

If you set your goals too high, and then don't achieve, then you get despondent and depressed, and then you lack the drive to continue in your efforts.

Good News! :applause:

Glad to hear you are responding well Rob. Now comes the hard part, being 'patient' with your recovery. As the Tragically Hip song goes "an inch an hour, two feet a day".

Best Regards, Rob:ernae:

Rob, I've only just picked up on this - a shocker.

This is something I know all about - had a stroke myself - ten years ago now - and it is something that comes out of the blue. But with all the care you are getting, and the meds, I hope you will soon be back to your customary 50%.

I wish you all the very best, and can assure you that your positive attitude is worth more than anything else in ensuring your recovery. Show 'em all, fellow grumpy ! :wavey:

best regards, Mike

Sure... trust a Scot to short-change me 50%:kilroy:

Actually, I won a small step/major battle yesterday... to recap, I had the stroke 14 days ago today. 9 days on the "Stroke Ward" and five in rehab. Normal baseline in Rehab is, apparently, 1 week of eval, and one week of rehab (minimum!) before you get much freedom. Then the odd day pass (parole?), then week or so later, an overnight at home, followed by a weekend at home....

Screw that!!!!! last night, 5 days into rehab the wife and kids took me out for dinner. OUT!!!!! A DAY PASS !!! Ok, it was three hours, but the 'pass' is good for anytime until Monday (short trips). Still a wheel chair, but that gets sympathy from the waitresses:wiggle:

I fully expect my therapists (nooooooo... just the physio!) will extract revenge on Monday, but it will be worth it. Did two flights of stairs Friday and was whipped, but it beats not being able to stand like a week ago.

Yes, attitude counts!

Glad to hear that you are making progress toward getting back to what ever your definition of normal happens to be....seems as though everyone has their own "normal" and no two "normals" are the same.

Will keep you in my prayers.

Good to hear from ya...and even better to know that you are still progressing in your recovery. A weekend at home....that is just the thing to boost your spirits and give you the encouragement to keep on keeping on. Yes, fire up your favorite sim, select your favorite plane and go for a spin.
